My New Home Theater 2.0, Staggered Wall HT. - Page 6

How far do you sit from the screen?

Since my wife "ordered" that the HT needs to be somewhat finished before our daughter's 1yrs old birthday party (12/9!), at least as far as the wall panels go. I've decided to try to put up some of the panels myself to speed up the progress since Big is out of town working on another awesome HT.



I did as far as the plain wall goes and will wait till Big back in town after Thanksgiving to finish up the rest as those are the location of surround speakers and/or power outlets.





Also, I've marked/measured the location of the rear diffuser panels at the back wall too.

Quick question! I'm thinking to redesign the lighting for the HT, especially since I'm waiting Big to come back to help me finish it.

I'm wondering what's the difference between all of these design? What's the pro & con of each? I'm looking for less of a flood light lighting path like the one I have right now. Planning to put 4 for the front wall zone, 4 at the back wall & 2 near each side of the wall as 2nd zone.

Update time again. Took 6 6" big can light out, and replaced with a total of 12 4" spotlights in the ceiling. 4 at the screen wall, 4 at the back wall, and 2 on each side of the walkway. Also painted the 2nd row bulk head ceiling at the back wall. And while at it, put another coat of black on the rest of the ceiling too. I also glued down the diffuser panels on the rear wall too. Going to cover it up next week.

Will do over the weekend.

They are very bright & hot too at full power. I have 2 Insteon dimmer on their way to control them.

LOL.... Actually it wasn't bad at all. As you saw on the pic, I did one side of the wall, the wall on the door side near the screen, only the rear wall didn't get finished (hopefully will finished this weekend). At least I did do a good clean up in the basement! Now everyone is looking forwards for a movie night!

Btw, you'd better get back in town SOON to wrap things up here or I'm going to post a HEAD HUNTER/WANTED sign all over the AVSForum!

Where's Big when I need him the most?!

Ok, the HT is now officially DONE!! Projector hanged, screen mounted! All good to go now!





Actually, besides wanna try out the new toy, I mainly was measuring the mounting location of the projector in regards of my desire screen size (136" 2.35:1 diagonal at least). It seems like I'll have to mount it on the 2nd row bulk head 'cos I'm a bit shy of 136" diagonal when zoomed if I position the projector right in front of the bulk head bump out.

P.S. put 1+ lamp hour last night on the projector, so far, I do like the power zoom/shift/focus feature (coming from a 4+yrs old Epson 1080UB from my last HT!). And the eshift2/4K looks great so far on CBS late show talk show, recorded F1 race from Speed. But seems a bit too much to my taste (default 4K high res. setting) on ESPN NBA game last night.

I was doing the same thing until I put it in the rack.

Yeah, I even walked "really gentle" in the theater just in case too. Good thing was everyone was asleep and my dog is only a 18lbs miniature schnauzer. But after about an hour of playing around (mainly for screen size measurement), it's back in it's box till Big is back in town.

I was planning to finish up mounting the rear wall panels today.

Before I started, I mount the side speaker backing inside the panel, and ran the wire.



Then I installed my custom cut MA face plate so I could mount both the Sonos & the Wii within a single shelve to save the rack space.



After that, I decided to fire up the receiver and listen to some music via Sonos & the surround speaker while I'm working in the HT. 10 mins later, I was like, since I pull out the surround speakers, may be I should connect them to the L & R channel up front and have stereo music.



At around 1:45pm, I suddenly remember there's a Redskins game going on. So the last thing I did today in the HT was gathered a few big boxes, stacked them up high, and took out the projector again, sit back & enjoy a good football game!



I promise I'll finish up the rear wall tomorrow!

I don't need Santa to come visit me this year, all I want for X'mas is Big to come finish up the HT for me!
