Great room! Love the staggered frames. I moved your look to the top of my "I'm just going to try to copy this" pile.
Amazing! i did not even realize the room was done. it looks fantastic. Do the walls reflect a lot from the screen light with the lights off?

Room isn't done yet, still have a few more stuffs to work on. But at least it's functional in the meantime (probably a bad idea! tongue.gif ). No, not really. I've never notice of any reflection or got bothered with from the ceiling nor the side wall.

Yeah they never are fully done are they biggrin.gif

Some quick update.

I programmed the Harmony remote & it's RF emitter so no more multi-remotes nor pointing to the device. I took advantage of the IR trigger input for the Denon, OPPO, and the JVC. Had to do a quick run to the RadioShack for some 2.5mm->3.5mm adapter & some 3.5mm cables. However, I ran into a problem for the JVC projector. Every button for the projector works fine from the IR input except the "On" command?? I thought it probably needs to learn the "On" command from the JVC remote; however, it works fine when not using the Harmony RF emitter, just point the remote to the projector. So the "On" command is correct. I'm really scratching my head on this one..... confused.gif Other than that, the remote is working perfectly. Once we have the rope light installed, I'll program the Insteon onto the Harmony too.

And here's a quick & dirty cellphone preview of the ambient light that will be surrounding the stagger panel both on top & below.

Self note: NEVER EVER plug in the rope light when they are in coil!! They WILL melt!! eek.gif

GO RAVEN~!! wink.gif

Gary Your theater looks awesome. I love those panels. Panels being differnt thickness, do you have different thickness of the acoustic treatments ?
Can you share how thick and how high the treatments are on your walls.
Thanks.

What an amazing clean and contemporary room, I love it, and will definitely be borrowing from the design for our space! Enjoy watching the game this weekend, I have a feeling you'll have a pretty full house with everyone wanting to watch it in your theater. biggrin.gif

Yes, I do have different thickness of Linacoustic behind the panel mainly depends on the thickness of the panels. They are floor to ceiling at the first reflection point or about where the door is.

Alright, we've finally had the door panels & the knob done today! And finished up putting the backing stripes for the surrounding rope light. Next week, hopefully we'll finish putting up the rope light.

Yes, a picture is worth a thousand words, so here you go. wink.gif

Now, both me & Big could go enjoy the Super Bowl tonight. GO RAVENS!!

I decided to use regular incandescent rope light instead of LED because of the warmer light color to better match the HT. I've tried those so-called "warm" LED, but it's just way too plain white to me. And my wife really against the cool blue LED.

Btw, we made some great progress the last two weekends! Lights are done, and almost finished the surrounding panels too (only one corner left). After that, we'll work on the surround panels around the screen. Then it'll be DONE!! eek.gif

Well, at least for the current "phase I". Already have plans for "phase II" down the road. wink.gif

Yup, no pics at the moment. Will have a massive pics once update once everything is done, or Big will post some of his hard works.

In the meantime, here's a shot of the rack drawer for the remotes. cool.gif

That's just wrong! biggrin.gif You're just showing off now smile.gif

I don't blame you; I would, too. That's pretty cool, I must admit!

Is the drawer motorized? Have you rigged up a voice command module to it?

"Remotes, please." brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrpt...click biggrin.gif

Is that drawer for your in-laws who can't figure out that the Vol + button on a Harmony increases the volume? Or the "Watch TV" activity lets them watch TV? biggrin.gif

Landshark1 had Monday off so we attacked his remaing punch list of items. The biggest item was to fabricate the front wall panels which will surround his screen, hide his height speakers, and contain some acoustical treatments.

The wood is the basic finger joined pine (comes in 16 ft lengths) I bought the 5/4 x 3 1/2 size and ripped in half. Made four panels. customized for the slanted walls and sloped ceiling. (Builder special) The frames will get covered with black FR701 GOM. Frames assembled with 3 inch screws.

In the picture the frames are just sitting in place we will add some little dabs of Velcro later.

Just to show a little more detail, one panel removed

Do you have rope light above and below all of those panels? How did you attach them to the wall? Are the ones on the rear wall just sitting over the diffusion panels? Any method to how you arranged the diffusion panels? What did you put above the panels to "finish" it?
We ended up using rope light channel stapled in place for all the rope lights. The wall panels were arranged randomly by computer. The randomness is not the diffusion it is just for looks. I found a mosaic tile pattern generator on line and it did the work.

the diffuser panels:

actually this is the diffusor panel that we use. http://www.auralex.com/sound_diffusor_qfusor/sound_diffusor_qfusor.asp

I arranged them alternatively, vertical-horizontal-vertical pattern at the back wall.

and here's the the tracking that we use to hold the rope light for the top one. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004TSI7MC/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

the bottom lights are taken care by gravity.

We finished Gary's punch list today and Phase I is done! Some pics that we snapped quickly this morning to document the effort. I'm sure Gary will provide more as he finds the time.

Super cool! I gotta do something like that with the inside of my door next time your in my neck of the woods again! smile.gif
post #238 of 498
Fantastic work. The various lighting is impressive and the shadows created by the panels looks great.

How about a video?

Yay! The HT is officially DONE!! (well, at least for the construction or the "phase I" stage) biggrin.gif still need to finish up programming the Insteon scenes to the Harmony.

I'm really really thanks to Big, without him, my HT won't even be remotely close to what it is!

I spent the afternoon cleaning up the HT & the outside basement area. I'll take some pics hopefully next weekend and update the first post with more detail setup.

Btw, we did a quick reading/analysis of the room this morning using Big's Omni mic. I think we both quite happy with the end result. RT60 time is about 27~37ms. The sub & the mains cross very nicely @ 60hz. Bass frequency responses seems pretty good/flat according to Big. But I do have a small dip, -5hz @ 40hz at the MLP. The SVS is running at 20hz mode, and I got some good bump and extension probably from the room itself down to about 18hz. I think I'll try to run it at 16hz mode and see how it goes sometimes in the future. And I'll probably hold off of getting another sub for now too. The only thing is we saw a big dip at 1khz or so regardless where we put the mic at. My main concern was how the acoustic treatment that I put on will interact with the room. Will the room be too "dead" or still not enough (too much reverb). After the measurement, I'm happy to see (and hear) how the "room" sounds. smile.gif

Now... what should I watch tonight....?? rolleyes.gifbiggrin.gif
