Was WMC Digital Cable Adsivor satisfied with your setup?

At one time when things weren't recognized, pushing the card more firmly corrected the problem.

At another point when the tuner wasn't recognized, I just hit the back button and the tuner was recognized after that.

and yes, my system passed the digital cable test. It was definately the wrong card. I know that for sure now. Going to pick up a different card at local Comcast office and see if that works, before I go and RMA the thing.

Not sure why my system didn't give me the 'found new hardware' message though when I did try twice to hook it all up. I would think that would have happened whether it had a cc in it or not.

Let's not forget the wretched tuning adapter!

Luckily Comcast doesn't require those.

that is odd. While the cablecard obviously gets married to the device, I would of guessed that would simply be the tuner and nothing beyond that when it comes to PC tuners, weather it be USB or internal PCI card....in otherwords obviously you cant pull the cablecard out and slap it into a different tuner or tivo and expect it to work, but figured you would be able to attach the tuner to a different computer with same cablecard in tact, or move an internal card like the ceton to a different computer, with no issue at all with that end of things. hmm.

I notice in "my programs list' that Playready PC runtime is on my PC. When I first tried to install, I let the 'Playready' software load, ok'd it, etc and then tried to finish setup of device, only to have the failure I had. Whether it was simply because of wrong type of Cablecard or a faulty Hauppauge WinTV DCR-2650 Dual Cable Card Tuner I don't know yet until I go get a proper M card Saturday.

But after reading some of these Playready issues that others have had, I'm not sure what to do before I try to reinstall device. Do I need to uninstall what's there before I start over? Do I even want or need it on my PC at all?

You need playready for any encrypted TV content, which is almost everything.

But, I screwed something up during the pair and activate process, and only have 1 tuner working. I had 2 tuners showing in window with info for Pairing, but while on hold, I hit the refresh button on one of them. Any ideas how to correct this?

Hauppauge support got me squared away. This device works great. Might end up being the best 100$ I ever spent.

but when you get to the part where you are to call the number to pair/activate, Hauppauge just told me to click next and finish with the rest of it, as if I did call.

When I did that, the 2 tuners showed up in that window where you are then to call in, but as I clicked 'next', etc., it finished that segment of of the install. Closed window, clicked on live tv, watching one item.........then I tried to record another item..........bingo, 2nd tuner was there and recorded just fine.

So everything works just great now. All channels we subscribe to loaded up initially, so I didn't even need to call regular support for Comcast to get then to fix that, as many others have. Lucky me.

One other issue I had was Media center was freezing up on me at first, during my one tuner stage...and even though we get Norton Security Suite as part of our Comcast, I tried the Norton 360 fix Hauppauge has listed on support page. That fixed that. I haven't had a single problem with it since.

The new firmware seems to be crap. It was going pretty good for a few months with not many missing tuner errors but after updating its been doing it pretty much every day. It also occasionally loses one of the tuners leaving me with one working one. Basically it sucks now and I always miss recording shows.

What version is giving you trouble?

I'm having similar problems. I'm considering a nightly reboot to get around the no tuner available problem. This is a pure vanilla w7 system with no crapware.

I'm going to try something like this;

create a batch file in notepad containing the following string

c:\windows\system32\shutdown.exe /R /T 5 /F

saved as "autoshutdown.bat"

Then scheduled a task to run nightly at 2am.

I reboot nightly too. I also schedule any MS updates to be applied at that time, so there's no gaps during "recording hours."

What Tuning Adapter did the CableCo give you? Tuners not available could be the TA's fault.

I was doing ok for a couple of months but started having problems last week, losing tuners in sleep/wake cyles (fixed by a reboot) once a day. Also using most recent drivers/firmware, and no TA.

I thought it was just me, apperantly not. I too have been having sudden tuner availability issues like crazy over the last couple weeks. The occaisional time it happened before, I usually could simply unplug and replug the USB and be back in business. Now all the sudden it's nearly every day and a full reboot is the only way to get em back. The latest firmware was far enough back and the issues are so sudden and recent, I dont think it's a firmware issue. I think perhaps a particular windows update or something isnt playing nice.

yes, i also started having this issue again. it was running pretty smooth for a couple months other then the occasional single tuner lock up. But now I'm missing one recording per day because the tuner is not recognized after waking from sleep. A reboot will fix it. But it repeats the problem the next day.

I suspect it had something to do with the latest Windows Updates. The problem started after a recent update. I dont exactly know which it was as the system is set to download and install updates automatically. I just need to reboot the system afterwards.

I did get the "new cable card detected, setup now" message yesterday but no missing tuners

I've seen that as well, though I can't see a pattern. It seems that I lose the tuner maybe once a week, which gets fixed with a reboot. And I've also seen the "new cable card detected" message, which seems to go away, if I close and restart media center.
I'm using the latest updates, and I don't have a tuning adapter. Pretty strange altogether...

Ya know, I've been having a lot of problems with my TW dvr too. I wonder if the problem is at the provider end?

It seems like I lose a tuner there once a week or so. Cured by a reboot. It's a SA 8300hd for reference and other people in my area report problems in general with most of the dvrs offered.

Has anyone contacted Happauge tech support on this? Are the SD HDHRP units having issues as well?

I don't lose tuners (permanently) with my HDHR Prime. Sometimes it takes a couple seconds to grab one though.

I'm fairly sure it's usb related, hence you don't see the problem with the Prime.

I never have to reboot to get tuners back. All I have to do is close the client (xbox or whatever). It seems that occasionally a client grabs a tuner, but the 2650 misses the release. Closing the client releases it.
