MTV Renews 'Teen Wolf'

Second season to return in 2012

By Andrea Morabito -- Broadcasting & Cable, 7/13/2011 6:11:50 PM

MTV has picked up a second season of Teen Wolf, the network said Wednesday.

The series, a reinvention of the classic werewolf tale, is currently averaging 1.7 million total viewers and a 1.5 rating with persons12-34, making it MTV's highest-rated new series of 2010 and 2011.

"Executive producer Jeff Davis has brought an exciting, cinematic story to life with a breakout young cast who our audience has wildly embraced," said David Janollari, head of MTV programming. "Picking up Teen Wolf for a second season marks another step towards the further diversification of our schedule, with this big, bold, entertaining scripted series."

The sophomore season will return for 12 episodes in 2012.

The show over all isn't bad but the last Episode in the school was bad!
Got to agree, that last episode was a waste. Otherwise I've been enjoying the show.

Kind of a Vampire Diaries for Wolves, but not too bad. Especially Crystal Reed! Yowsa! Agree the whole last episode in the school was kind of poor.

The Vampire Diaries blows it away but it'll do for a summer substitute. Sure could use a bigger special effects budget.

Werewolves have always been hard to do well compared to vampires. Even the most silly looking bloke with a pixie cut, plastic fangs and a Dracula cape looks better than a lot Hollywood attempts at a werewolf. TV makes it worse.

Morphing a and CGI have improved things over the years, but it still often comes down to expensive animatronics or full body makeup to get it done right, and few productions have the time or money to go all the way with it. Even the big budget "Underworld" resorted to cheap video game CGI werewolves in places.

Barring that, you often end up putting gnarly fur on real wolves and shooting everything else in closeup to hide the FX in order to hide the lack of render time in the CGI. The problem is, we don't have any animals that can step in as a direct stand-in for a werewolf and people certainly are hard to make look like them in a full body shot.

Any time you can keep your actors looking as close to human as possible, you automatically quadruple your bang for your production buck. It avoids excess makeup and CGI that are not only expensive to produce, but time consuming, as well.

I have to say i was surprised by the season finale. It was by far the best ep of the season. The writing was better than other episodes and the directing was very good. It had a higher quality feel to it than in the past. Even the FX were pretty good (comparatively so). I was surprised how well they wrapped things up and left a few things open. I was really expecting a lame finale but it was just the opposite. The show started well and finished strong. It was just the middle episodes that lacked (some were horrible). For any vampire diary type show fans it is worth checking out for summer filler. I hope they renew it and keep the higher quality up.

Enjoyed this series overall. Some bad momments, but mostly good momments. Loved the last episode. Glad to see its coming back.

I thought the finale was pretty good too, though a couple of transition scenes lacked any logic. And how Derek survives unharmed the obvious 'kill shot' from the sister goes completely unexplained, unless I just missed it or misunderstood it. The finale was cleverly written to (apparently) be satisfying if it didn't get renewed, but left enough going forward in case it did.

Yeah, we love the show. Pretty good for something on MTV.

MTV Renews 'Teen Wolf' for Third Season

Net doubles episode order to 24

By Tim Baysinger -- Broadcasting & Cable, 7/12/2012 6:44:06 PM

MTV announced Thursday during San Diego Comic-Con that it has renewed its drama, Teen Wolf for a third season.

The new season will consist of 24 episodes, double the order for each of the show's first two seasons. This marks the first time an MTV primetime scripted series has reached a third season and is the largest episode order to date in the scripted space.

"Teen Wolf represents a terrific foray into the scripted world for the millennial MTV audience, and marks tremendous success in the continued diversification of our schedule," said David Janollari, head of programming for MTV. "Renewing the show for a third season celebrates the creative vision of executive producer Jeff Davis and the remarkable talent of the cast who bring this bona fide fan favorite to life."

Teen Wolf currently ranks as the #1 series across all TV in its time period in the P12-34 demo, and draws 1.8 million total viewers each week.

I have the same problem with next week's episode. Maybe somebody is confused by all the repeats. I've set it to record.

Came to remind folks, TW starts again tonight!
From what I've read this is going to be Style's arc, and judging by tonight he might just pull it off. Always thought of the character as a comic foil but tonight changed that.
Yes he did show us a little of what he can do. Loved his nightmares.
Stiles has been killing it so far!
Got to say I'm still really enjoying this show. They seem to pull a lot of the plots out of their rear, but it's still a fun ride.
I watched the first two episodes then deleted the recordings, I just can't stand when shows do hallucinations and this season is nothing but them hallucinating and when the first episode has Stiles hallucinating, waking up, but not really its still a hallucination, then wake up, but not really it is still a hallucination, I was done.

Great Season Finale. We got loads of blood, death and mayhem. Lots set up for next season and surprise baddie is back.
Actor played Stiles was able to carry the season as the bad guy.
Overall this was was very entertaining.

Got to agree, very strong finish for the most part, but the Derick thing at the end seemed tacked on and not integrated.
