TV resolution help

Thread Starter
I have my Samsung pn59d7000 hooked up to my Nvidia GTX580 through a hdmi to dvi converter and cannot set a resolution higher than 1680 x 1050 in Windows 7.

Manually setting the resolution to 1920 x 1080 makes the desktop bigger than the screen itself. How can I set the tv to properly display 1920 x 1080 when used as a computer monitor?

This sounds like the TV is 'overscanning'. Look for a configuration item called
"pure pixel" or "1:1" (or something similar) in your TV's setup.

I cannot find any setting similar to what you are referring to. Any advice?

On the old Samsungs it was called "Just Scan" look for that. Why are you using DVI and not HDMI?

Your Picture size should be set to Screen Fit

Ok I bought a mini hdmi port and the screen is still over scanning. Anyone know how I can fix this?

I have attempted to fix this with both Nvidia's over scanning tool and Samsung's "wide fit" and text becomes difficult to read, very jagged and not smooth.

You need to have your PC desktop and HDMI port output set to 1920x1080 without using the Nvidia overscan tgool in order have true 1:1 pixel mapping between then screen and the TV in order to have readable small text when using the TV as a PC monitor.

Some TVs also need you to rename the HDMI input to PC in order to properly display things inputted by a PC.

Screen Fit
: When your TV inputs HDMI (720p / 1080i / 1080p) or Component
(1080i / 1080p) signals, displays the full image without any cut-off.

This is the setting you should use for 1:1 pixel mapping. You should re-read your owners manual again.

How do I rename my input on the Samsung PN59D7000? I have gone through the menus, user manual and searched google and cannot find a solution.

Did you see the comment by DJWikiera (which I've quoted below)?

Samsung's term for "1:1" (or similar) seems to be "Screen Fit".

Sorry can't help w/ that, I've never owned any Samsung TVs, I just recall reading some post of people that had TVs that changing the input name to PC would fix display quality issues(I believe it turned off some of the TVs built in processing that doesn't work well on PC outputs), on my Mitsubishi I have several preset names I can toggle thru for each of the inputs as do many other brands and some you can punch in a custom name, your TV may not support this and renaming may be the fix for you're problem.

I just checked the manual for you TV from the Samsung site and it has a PC adjustment in the menu to fix picture noise, maybe you should try using the feature to smooth out the picture, windows also has some adjust that can be done to make text better, it might take adjsuting both to get things to your liking.

Is your TV's picture size setting set to Screen Fit when sending 1920x1080 from the PC?
