Hi, I am new to the forum and apologize in advance for the "this vs that" post but I can't seem to find anyone here in the US who knows anything about Canton speakers. I know they are #1 best seller in Germany, but they are unheard of on this side of the pond.
Let me start by saying, that price is not the issue when choosing between these two speakers. I am simply looking to get the best sound quality I can get for home audio and HT. I am driving them with a Sony STR-DN 1020 (110W x 7)
So, I have heard the Polks and they are great. I like everything about them and I can get them in a cherry finish to reduce the spousal resistance to larger floor speakers.
I have not heard the Canton's but the reviews on line are all fantastic. So I am very intrigued.
The differences between the two are pretty small;
the Polks have 3 5.25" drivers vs the Canton's 2 7" aluminum
Polk rates the Tsi 400's 34hz vs Canton 25hz
Polk efficiency/SPL 91 vs Canton 89.5
both have 1" silk dome tweeters
The Polks are more readily available here so getting a matching center is easier
they are both beautiful!!
So, do I go with speakers that have better efficiency or a speaker with a little better bottom end? Are 3 mid/woofers always better than 2? I can biamp the Polks, but not the Cantons.
I also have the option of getting the Canton 430's (smaller bookshelf model). Would it be enough for pure home audio enjoyment, aka Tool cranked up really loud?!?!
I do not have a sub, but will get one soon.
Thanks so much.
