Requesting Advice for a N/W attached media player

hi,

I just happened to buy a 3TB 3.5" HDD and was planning on standing up a NAS and while researching, stumbled upon the concept of networked media players...
I have gone through the forums a bit to gather basic idea but frankly it is a bit too much info to process hence the post to get some advice...

i am looking for a media player with the following features:
  • ability to seat a 3.5" HDD (this is a 3TB, 7200rpm, SATA III drive)
  • Netflix streaming support

i have a rough shortlist, but have not been able to confirm if Netflix would stream on these
  1. Asus o play gallery (website states netflix supported, but for some reason cannot find a place to buy this)
  2. Asus o play HD2 (Does this support Netflix?)
  3. Dune HD Smart D1 (Does this support Netflix?)
  4. Popcorn A210 (Does this support Netflix?)

for the curious, i picked up the newegg deal for the 3TB drive for 119 (could not resist the price drop) and like most of the reviewers, I am planning to not use the drive in the external case
HITACHI XL Desk 3TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive 0S03092
Item=N82E16822145466
sorry, cannot post a url, this is my first post.

would appreciate any help/suggestion/advice/or a url in the right direction

thanks in advance!

The above players you mentioned currently do not support internal 3TB nor do they do NetFlix - only way they can is using a 3rd party software PlayOn and you must have a PC server with this for NetFlix to work...

thanks a lot for the heads-up, do you know any other player that would support the 3TB drive?

thanks.

This is something I feel like we see from folks new to the idea of media streamers - the want for internal storage in some way.

Is there a particular reason you want to put a drive directly in your media streamer? Media "streamers" are just that - streamers. They can pull content from a network, or from an attached external drive just as easily.

Also, from what I understand, some (perhaps many) current streamers don't play nice with 3TB drives.

thanks for taking time to read through the post and replying.

so, i have a couple of PCs at my place and have 3 different external storage devices brought over time....I have been toying with the idea of a htpc or a central hub where i can host all my data and access it over wifi or lan

frankly, i do not mind connecting this 3TB drive via USB, but i happen to stumble upon these solutions with the ability to seat a 3.5" drive hence was just curious if a particular one would fit my need and case.

Having one device under the TV cabinet just seems like a nice idea and it also fits right with the wife acceptance factor

I don't think any of them can handle that 3TB size, that's the big issue. If you want a high WAF, you want a Boxee Box.

hmm...

well, i guess i'll put the 3TB drive to another user and buy boxee or roku for the wife

thanks for the help...
