Homeland on SHO - Page 2

I taped this and watched last night.

At first it seemed kind of boring, later I got into it, a lot because of what Damien Lewis brought to his role. I seemed to snap to attention at Morena's first scene, I don't know why, I shouted "Snake lady, what are you doing?".

Of course, I couldn't stop wondering, back of my mind: "OK, let me see if I've got this straight: Claire Danes is Frank Sinatra and Lewis is Laurence Harvey, who's going to be Angela Lansbury"?

I watched it last night, and ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would. Danes is excellent (as always), but it helps that she has a complex character to play.

Am I getting old, or do the premium channels mandate a certain number of F bombs per minute? It gets tiresome after a while, and takes me out of the show a bit. I don't know anyone who talks that way. Again, maybe I'm just out of it...

I could also have done without seeing her "freshen up" prior to heading to that meeting.

Just people you know. Just about everyone I know talks that way no matter the age. Been that way for decades. And I'm no youngin' either.

I thought the show was ok. I'll give it another week.

Watched the premier episode last night.... I liked what I saw.

Excellent cast, solid acting, good production values and an interesting premise. I'm in unless it suddenly takes a serious turn for the worse... but with the current cast I seriously doubt that could happen.

Perhaps this show should take a cue from Dexter ....
Mostly wrap up the main story arc by the end of the season, & leave more than enough plot hanging for another ...

Drama show on premium channel - check
Interesting cast and plot - check
Morena shows it all - check
Danes crazy hot chick, voyeur, paranoid - check
Brody lying to everybody so far - check.

I notice them more when they are bleeped for broadcast. Otherwise I don't notice them much because as you say most people these days talk like that. If it gratuitous then it may get annoying. Robert Altman in the commentary for one of his films said he purposely put enough F-bombs in to get an R rating because he didn't want teens in theaters spoiling the movie for adults, it's target audience.

Seems to me like a great start.

I thought the scene with her undressing and getting ready was sexy. The quick wipe was a little intense though

It's one of the little things that make me appreciate the show. It makes us uncomfortable, but it's very real. And something you don't often see on American TV. So I say thumb's up - keep us on our toes.

Ehhhhh...that's what folks said about Starbuck taking a leak with the door open on BSG. I still don't need to see/hear that on either show.

I'm also wondering how they'll maintain momentum past one season but I'll just enjoy this season for now and see where they take it.

I dunno the whole premise sounds ridiculous like an episode of 24.

American Hero turned terrorist?

Or is he a double agent?
I realy liked the show and am looking forward to how it plays out. Personally, I wish more shows were written with the intent of only being on air for 2 or 3 years. The story telling would be tighter, pacing would be better and the overall story would probably remain more interesting where the writers wouldn't feel compelled to write a bunch of side stories/filler that only serve to prolong the life of the show.

??? Did you watch it or did you just assume from reading a synopsis. This show has more in common with Sleeper Cell than it does with 24.

Very good 1st episode. I really enjoyed the performances all around if they can keep this up should be an interesting series.

I enjoyed the premier episode. My only nit is that Brody was too eloquent during his homecoming speech. Not what I'd expect from someone who spent almost 8 years (supposedly) in the "hole" they found him in. Other than that, I like it. Especially seeing Morena Baccarin! Should be a decent series.

Interesting, because I thought of Sleeper Cell as well. The first season was excellent, but I never made it to the 2nd season. That was an intense and well-written show.

You didn't miss anything. The second season was a huge disappointment.

The first season of Sleeper Cell was excellent. I still have it on my Tivo. The second season was a big let down. It was obvious they didn't plan on it. And, of course, there was no third season.

edit: oops, it seems Bruce and I were racing...

I didnt think the 2nd.season was horrible, but it is no.where close to season 1. If I remember correctly there were a.number of.problems with the show during the 2nd season that lead to it being the way it was. Not to.mention season two was more of a.segway to season 3 which never made it out IMO.

I like the show but don't know about its shelf life as a long running series...seems much more suited for a limited run series

I love Claire Danes in this...might be her best work yet...she totally owns this role

This is exactly my thinking. I really liked the first show, but if they limit the show to this single premise, I don't see how it can last beyond one season. If they allow this story to be wrapped up at the end of the season and move onto other threats, I think it has a chance.

He's ready to play cool and do bad things. It's too obvious to set him up in the first episode, not to mention the trailers. I expect more from Showtime. Hopefully the stupid TV terrorist BS is not all there is to this.

Ditto. I think we are going to see a lot of complex motivations and flawed characters, him included. We may never really be sure what he's up to, or if he's up to anything other than trying to deal with years of torture.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe they will be able to change the finale if renewed prior to it or they have something in the finale that can lead into the second season if needed. eg. rumors or some indication there's another agent or they nail Brody and he gives them info how to catch his "creator" (I forget his name).

The first thing I thought when I saw the previews at the end of the episode was, They're setting us up to think one way. They ought to do a different set of previews that makes Danes look completely crazy. When you're led down the path right away thinking he's evil, I've come to expect the total opposite down the line.

I saw it as he was programmed/brainwashed by his captors to respond to certain scenarios, one of which would be returning home as a hero and having to give a speech. It's as if the speech just kicked into his brain.

Morena is just gorgeous. I'm sure this is a Firefly/Serenity browncoat dream.

I loved the opener. I hope the story that develops is deep and unpredictable. I also hope they exploit Inara's, I mean Morena's, nudity clause to the extent that any normal person feels that it is overkill and completely unnecessary.

... then throw in a few more shots.

Only odd thing was when he called his wife after just being rescued - he identified himself to her as "Brody".

An LA Times interview with Lewis posted today alluded to just that. Good

Other than the fact than an E-5 married Marine sniper would much more likely be living in base housing at Camp Lejeune or Pendleton instead of a nice house in Washington DC, I enjoyed the premier. I'm looking forward to seeing how it plays out.
