I have used Gamecenter to watch last season and the current one. I switched because Comcast only shared Flyers broadcasts with DirecTV in SD/HD-lite and they looked awful.
The Gamecenter broadcasts are of significantly better quality - filling a 16:9 screen. I would describe them as being slightly lower than full HD quality you might expect on a mainstream sports channel .. but much better than the SD rubbish I was seeing. Plus the benefits of not having to DVR the games, access to them online from a laptop when I am travelling plus 10-15 min condensed versions of each game the next morning really sold me.
The experience is not flawless. Occasionally, in a game, the Roku says buffering and it may even hang there. On the old Roku, it might hang once per game. With the new Roku, the home button always returns to the top level menu and it takes seconds to return to the game. I would say it happens once every other game. It has got significantly better this season compared to last - but I wouldn't want you to think the experience is perfect. Still - I would not switch back to Center Ice with DirecTV.
