Hello, I have a Polk RTi speaker setup (assume I will eventually get the a9s)

Newegg has the Yamaha rx-a1000 on sale for around the same price as the onkyo 370 ... ~$600

Right now I have a insignia 450 Watt 5.1 reciever and I do believe that this is my weak component. So, want to upgrade but must be through newegg. Thanks

Of those two it would easily be the A1000 IMO.

Thanks. What about the onkyo 709 or 808? Thanks again, I just dont understand receiver technology very well. I'm also wondering if the MULT XT will make a large difference

Okay I will tell you but expect it to be refuted. I would not at this time buy ANY Onkyo AVR. Not until they get their crap sorted out. There are threads here and other forums about the problems people are having with Onkyos. Read the thread concerning the X08/X008 series in this forum alone. Is it something you may want to deal with? As I have said I have read nothing about the X09 series that is negative yet. But then again give it some time and maybe it will happen. I hope not for the sake of the people who are investing in them. You do not want to deal with Onkyo's customer service department, they are as bad as anything you read or heard about. Been there, done that. Too many other choices in that price range to have to deal with those hassles.

I would take the 1000 as well, the 1010 is coming(if not in stock yet, will be shortly)...and it is a good deal.

And the issue Phantom(and others) keep harping about has a fix, which also has pre-emptives out there as well...if you buy an older X08 it matters.

Since you are looking at the 370(which the 709 is the more featured twin) you can ignore the issues the X08 have(had).

Go to AudioAdvisor.com and give the NAD T747 a serious look. For a little more or maybe less in some places there is also the Marantz 6005 that deserves a look also. The NAD gets great reviews and is a bargain. Read reviews and test reports from the AA site. Of course there are also dedicated threads for each of these AVR's here.

And here we go again, let me spend anywhere from $700 to over $2K for a brand new AVR so I may have to send it in for repairs within what may be few weeks to maybe a few months. We (myself and others) consider it a warning about a very bad product buying decision and some here say "spend the money on something with a known problem and then send it off to "maybe" being repaired, only to wonder if the fix will indeed work. Sometimes your logic amazes even me.

I could not agree more. I am one disappointed in Onkyo after my TX-SR803 I paid a grand for has failed less than five years later. BOOO I have recently picked up a Yamaha RXA-710BL and so far am in love with it. I will still send the onkyo off to get fixed but am not happy about it and would NOT purchase another.
