Dennis, Are you planning on having a room at the AKfest next weekend? Sorry if I missed this in the previous postings.

No--the cost and logistics are just too much. I'll have to put all of my demo eggs in the Capital Audio Fest basket. But I'll be there checking out and answering questions about the Salk SS8's.

Gail's birthday is the 14th, so maybe I can convince her take a trip north at the CAF in July 13-15th, and we can come and irritate you (or maybe just me), but should wait I have my order before I do that right? !

I'm hoping to attend as well. Perhaps this time I'll see you there.

I'm buttering up the wife in order to be allowed to attend.

I'd like to attend this as well. Do they allow multiple Dennis Murphy disciples gathering together at once?

Ribbonfest 2012!

Well it would be great if all of us could meet and stir up the audio insanity and make Dennis nervous!!!

We could get T shirts that say:

Dennis Murphy Fanboy Club

And get thrown out of the other speaker display rooms

Fortunately, that little slogan is too long to get on a T shirt.

Not if they exercise a little DIY with blank-tshirts and iron on letters.

Slogan on the back.

Dennis' face on the front

This is getting scary. Must not put face on front. Mass hysteria will ensue. Tramplings. Oh the humanity.

Nothing personal, but I'd like my shirt to have a picture of Ben instead.

Has "anyone" else received their center speaker from Dennis that would care to report?

I don't know how many more he has to do before that last one! (Probably mine)!
I got mine a while back Woodstart - check out some of my earlier posts
post #1763 of 4133
CAF sounds like a plan! I can be there in a few hours!
Hey buddy, Yeah I knew that, but just wondering if others care to comment!

Are you still enjoying it?

Any inputs from the owners as to how does the Phil2 perform in the HT setup ? I am going to be using them for regular TV and movie watching as well..
Sure, I use mine in theater and 2 channel/pure audio mode.

I am sorry, though, but I am very partial toward their performance as most here on the forum would agree with me! My reviews are nothing but positive.

Without a center....honestly I haven't missed one on most of the movies, except a few, even without it, I heard nothing but clear, detail, detail detail!!!!

The music 5.1/7.1 doby digital is superb, for example American Idol.

Bluray movies are indescribable, except to say, that I believe one gets everything designed to hear from voice, music and sound effects. The Phil2s deliver exceptionally well in those all areas.

With the XPA-5 amp, the performance was really good and improved when I added the OPPO. I will be receiving 5 SACDs/DSDs shortly and will report back.

Hope this helps.
So you use the Phil's sub and the surrounds without the center. And yes that helps . I will just be adding a sub may be a Rhyhmik with my Phils for HT.

Yep, for theater and only the 2 phils for 2 channel. I do, however, use the Rhymik for theater (DIY) and love it. A friend made the box for me and I did the rest from GR Research, seems best for both theater and music.

Also, If I can remember some of the SACDs are 3 channel, so that will be interesting when I get the center speaker.

The surrounds come in when needed, but the focus of the dialogue/sound come from the phils. The effects with the surrounds are necessary for total movie enjoyment...IMHO!

What are you upgrading from?

Fine folks of AVS,

A discovery was made yesterday when Dennis received back the pair of Philharmonic 2's that were sent to me for our Wisconsin GTG (Randy's pair). Dennis removed the bottom plate that covers the crossover and discovered that one of the midrange output wires had snapped; this would certainly explain the midrange problems I (we) heard with this pair of speakers. Apparently our Wisconsin GTG was meant for doom, as first we had a damaged pair of Phil 2's arrive (which we just discovered last night), and then we found out the left monoblock amplifier that we used to power every (left) speaker (except the Seaton's) had a bad transistor. What a disappointment...

Anyway, I have attached a picture that Dennis snapped immediately upon finding the snapped wire. I feel terrible about all of this and sincerely hope to hear another pair of Phil 2's or 3's as soon as possible.

P.S. Dennis did not ask me to post this, but you all deserve to know.

Thanks for the update, much appreciated. I had no doubts personally, but was extremely bothered that your expectations were not met.

As for the GTG, pfftt You got together with friends and peers and no bones were broken. I'd love to have experienced it, or something like it even with the technical difficulties. There will always be a next time...
