They are... but you need some power. Maybe it'S mental but i swear they sounded better at my friends house with a umc + rotel 200w amp than at my place.

Power isn't a problem for me, my amp puts out 225x5 into 8 ohms, 300x5 into 4 ohms, all channels driven.

It's not impossible, although rather uncommon. Don't underestimate the difference between the rooms, though.

Hi I'll have the 3's and the Philharmonitors, and also the 2's assuming I haven't sold out of them by then. Once I'm out of the original order of Asian cabinets, that's it for ther cheap 2's. They'll still be available in a custom cabinet, but that will add a chunk o'change to the price.

So are people looking a the custom cabinet 2s looking at $2500+ from now on?

Wait, the Asian cabinet Phil 2's are no longer going to be available? O.o

So the new look for the custom Phil 2 is going to be the standard Phil 2 once the Asian cabinet supply runs out?

Dennis, you should offer unfinished cabinets as well if the 2K Phil 2's aren't going to be around anymore.

You should be able to get them from Del, but it you want everything installed by Dennis it would hardly be worth the cost to ship the cabs to you then have to ship them to Dennis. The great thing about having everything installed by Dennis is that he tests the speakers before they leave him and he makes sure they're performing exactly as they should. I'm not sure it'd be worth it to lose that. Some things to take into account.

Some people want to finish them themselves with whatever automotive paint they like to use. At least in my case, if the speakers don't come in nice paints, piano finish, or super nice veneers then I'd be sanding and painting them.

That's cool, but why not just go to Salk and get it done for you, similar designs and sound can be had from them and you get it done by a place that has a stellar rep for making custom speakers, that is unless you wanted to turn the Phil's into a kit type of thing, which it sounds like you do, or am I off?

Although that's not to say Del couldn't do what you want. You'd also have to talk to him about that as well. I don't believe anyone has said they don't come in piano gloss (there are pics of a pair that were made with a piano gloss finish in this thread), or couldn't be finished in automotive paint(if Del will do it) or that you couldn't get whatever veneer you want (again talk to Del)

I would be happy to offer the Phil's as a kit. I haven't before because you just couldn't save enough to make it worthwhile, at least not for the 2's. I'm not sure buying unfinished cabinets would save you that much either. I think most of the labor is in fashioning the transmission line and other build details. A kit would make the most sense for people who like to make sawdust. Frankly, I would rather sell kits (for not much money) than finished speakers. My main goal is to get what I think is an excellent design out to as many people as possible.

As for future pricing, the 3's will definitely go up starting with the D.C. show in July. I need to pay Del more, and I also may have to line up a backup builder. Del's in a real crunch now with real work. And I would like to make at least a minimum wage on this project. We're talking 100's of $, not thousands, but $3000 will definitely be history come July.

You beat me to it. The price difference between components and finished product probably isn't great enough to justify them not being put together by Dennis, unless of course you just like to do everything yourself.

A kit would be really awesome!

You should do CA Audio Show next year. :P

How many China cabinets are left, Dennis?

Dennis, you need to get in touch with Erich H (avsforum member). he's been really investing his time and money to get all sorts of CNCd flat packs etc out on group buys. He's helped a lot of "DIY Beginners" get into it without all the difficulties behind DIY. here's the website he put up:

I'm even more glad my two's will be ready next week (fingers crossed). I talked to Van Alstine today and my new DAC and preamp will ship next week too. I can't wait. I just need to send Dennis a check now.

Yes, I did edit the message to look like you said something different. What can I say? I took an editing class with Michael Moore! :P

+1!

Wow! You got 25 pair of 2s from Asia. The Washington Philharmonic will build a statue to you.

Thanks for the link. I'll get in touch with him next week when his work schedule might be starting to unwind. Maybe there's a market for that sort of thing. I dunno. I could send out tested assembled crossovers. But I'm still not sure the savings would be sufficient. We'll see.

I've always thought what separates them is the Phil's dipole design. Unless I'm mistaken Dennis doesn't seem to want to replicate Salks at el cheapo prices. Rather he wants to make a speaker that has better soundstage. Thus the moot point of them sounding the same.

On the point of finish. If I can get a RAAL equipped speaker for 2K and have white piano metallic finish done by my own staff for $500 instead of the $1800 Salk is offering...

However, I still need to work out the logistics to get them here anyway...
