Philharmonic Audio - Dennis Murphy - Page 132

Hey guys, I don't mean to break up the sub conversation, but I see Dennis has lowered the price on the Focal monitors to $275 for the pair. I'd jump on that if I were you, that's a crazy good price. You can check them out on the website.

He also has a pair of Pioneer 52 towers with an upgraded tweeter and optimized crossover that has tremendously improved the sound available for $200 plus shipping. You can e-mail him or PM him for more information about either.

One last thing. The Philharmonitors have undergone a small price break, in that they are now available with free shipping to the CONUS. Anywhere else and I would ask Dennis.

Now back to the subwoofer thread tongue.gifbiggrin.gif

The ACI monitors are right on the homepage, the pioneers you would have to contact Dennis about, and the philharmonitors are on the monitor page on the Philharmonic website.

Ah...the ACI mointors. Thanks. Where did you see Dennis was offering them for $275? The site still says $450? Not doubting...just curious.

You must be using the way-back-machine. The price is right. In so many ways.

It shouldn't. I changed it myself the other day. Let me double check it.

Now I am confused....(not hard to do lately..hehe)...so $450 as listed is correct?
I thought I saw them listed at $300/pair. This is getting confusing!

It might be a browser caching issue smile.gif

I've tried the link and typing in the address manually on 3 different browsers and all are showing $275 for me.

The price is right but that telephone number at the bottom of the page could use some work biggrin.gif

You don't have that app? Too bad. Because if you did, you could just punch that number in and win a free pair of Phil Towers.

Using my Ipad at home, I get $450 when I click on the link. From my work computer I get $275 clicking on that same link.

Just another reason I hate computers......rolleyes.gif

Clear browsing data on your ipad. That should resolve it.

Hehe...I was using the word "computers" in the generic sense. PCs, Macs, whatever, they all frustrate me. biggrin.gif BTW, as A/V components become more computer like, they frustate me as well! tongue.gif

(Dang....I'm starting to sound like an old fart!)

Thanks for the tip. Time to dig around in the settings and find out how to do that.

Why make the SB do all the work when I can ask a Dayton Reference HF 12", Rythmik FV15HP, Aura 12", Acoustic Elegance TD, etc to do it?

Good question... What are the benefits / negatives of crossing over just before localization occurs vs. going as low as the speakers can without negative effects? I put it at 60 because before I ran room correction the Rythmik sounded a little boomy... The bass sounded more natural coming from the Phil's....will have to go back and test now.

Two (mains) speakers is better than one (sub) in the modal region. Multiple subs will be cleaner in the modal region than two mains, though.

By themselves, or with the mains playing?

When a sub is localizable that low, it's usually because something in the room is rattling or buzzing along with it.

Oh absolutely. No argument from me. I'd still opt for the sub taking over bass duties, though. Unless of course the modal response got significantly worse. Then i'd opt for 2 subs (or 4 wink.gif).

With mains playing. No buzzing or rattling and the room was heavily treated.

You mean you don't think there was anything buzzing or rattling. There is a difference.

And "heavily treated" is not relevant here.

I see over in audioholics Dennis was talking about playing his new speakers...with them crossed over at 60. Reading through several 200 page plus threads on Phil's I saw some place else he said he crosses at 60...lol..thats good enough for me.+
