Philharmonic Audio - Dennis Murphy - Page 146

The new web site design is much better. However, Dennis, the spec chart for the Slim is labeled "Philharmonic 3."

So the Phil 1 and 2 are gone.
Correct. The Phil 1 just didn't sell and the price difference between the 2's and 3's wasn't great enough since the Chinese made cabinets ran out. Plus now that the slims are out there would have been too much overlap in performance between the slims and the 2's.

Yup. Those Phil 1's were the best bargain nobody bought. But I'm an economist, and will bow to the will of the people.

Well I'm an economist too, and if you would've offered the 3's in Chinese cabinets.... As it is, I didn't regret those 3's one single second. They make the drums sing like no subwoofer could do (and no speaker I ever heard does). Got the subwoofer in stereo too. Put a $ value on that and for me the 3's come out a winner also against cheaper cabinets.

By the way it's true the standard cherry colors very nicely over time, they are now 9 months with me and their color starts to remind me of old cigar cases.

Well, I did sell a whole bunch of the 2's with the cheaper cabinets. But this experience has taught me that people are more than willing to pay an extra $400 for a woofer or tweeter that has generated a lot
of buzz (figuratively--not literally so far). I certainly can't take credit for either the woofer or bass tuning on the 3, but people are always astonished at how low and powerfully a single 8" driver can play. I'm very happy to hear they've worked out for you.

I was easily willing to pay more for the RAAL over the Fountek. The Philharmonic 2s were insanely cheap. Even if the Fountek is 90% of what the RAAL is, I got one of the best speakers I have ever heard for cheaper than any speaker on my shortlist. It would be silly of me to give up even 5% of performance to save a few hundred bucks when the speaker cost me $1,500 less than the cheapest speaker on my shortlist. I am very happy with what I payed for my Philharmonic 2s.

Funny--I just added two 15" subwoofers in refrigerator sized enclosures because the 8" wasn't enough for me. That said, I hated watching the SB move. I was convinced the coil would hit the backplate so I didn't play content with deep bass content TOO loudly. (Basshead by Bassnectar? wink.gif) Even my two W15GTIs move quite a bit when I play them at an SPL I am happy with. A third one will be coming in the next few months but it will probably be tuned to 15hz not 20hz like the other two.

The 2's were really meant to work with subs for serious bass. You get what you pay for woofer-wise. The Scan unit is around $300 a pop, the SB maybe $85.

So you've now got everything up and running again?

(Too bad, we missed meeting but that was the only time I could get off this entire year from work.)

Nope. tongue.gif I was able to test the subs and play them with a unit I bought that I am returning. My receiver is still not back from repair. I was using an old weak Denon. I haven't used the subs or the Phils since before I went on the trip.

I'm really sorry we couldn't make it happen, man. I would have loved to have you!

Yes--that's actually illegal in most states. But I think he's from Texas.

zask2, I just tried to call 'um as I heard 'um, LOL. The CAF had many affordable components and good sounding rooms, I had a blast. My pictures do not do justice to how stunningly beautiful the Phil 3s in olive burl looked. The pairing of Phil3s and Frank's T-9 pre/Synergy amp prove high end musical sound is not only affordable, but it can be made in the USA!
well ty so much for the heads up cuz i havnt heard them yet thats why i cant wait to get home cuz the wife sent me pictures of the boxes sitting in the dinning room just to tease me or maybe to get me to come home lol but i know whats inside those boxes and she doesnt lmao. that would be the olive burl phil 3 that you seen and heard at CAF :-) havnt seen them yet except from pictures. so ty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The new site is much less fragmented, very impressive. My only area of negative feedback is the gallery photo transition. It's rather fatiguing on the eyes.

As with most things it can be changed biggrin.gif

I just wanted to get it functioning correctly first. Now that both galleries are working correctly I can change how they transition.

You have to email it to fuzz and if he thinks it's worthy, he'll give you the instructions.
Why can't he just click on the image icon next to the paper clip icon and upload it directly from wherever he has it stored on his computer?
I was just kidding. I use photobucket and then copy the image url and paste it into the message.

That was subtle. Anyhow, I don't see the need for photobucket--just save the pics wherever they're usually saved on the computer, and then link to that location.

I suppose you can. I go the photobucket route so people don't have to click on the attachment and download it to see it. With photobucket, the pic just shows up within the post. eg.
