"Human interest stories"? LOL! The term is
soap opera! And that is what is wrong with most war movies, the filmmakers cannot ressist the temptation to ruin thes movies by mixing fictional characters into an otherwise true account. These characters are always involved in a silly love triangle or some other relationship that is totally irrelevant to the war, and that no one really cares about anyway. No, TTT did it the
right way, and as a result, it is a gripping drama that is never boring in the least.
Speaking of
Midway, it contains many serious flaws, not the least is the earlier mentioned soap opera aspect. Also, it has what is most likely the worst editing of any movie I have ever seen. In addition, much of the dialog is childish and trite-sounding, as if it had been written by someone like Ed Wood! In fact,
Plan 9 From Outer Space actually sounds more professionally written in some places!
On a positive note, the Blu-ray transfer of TTT is one of the very best I have seen in a long time. And again, I am really glad they did NOT make it into a soap opera.
