Samsung HDTV changes HD Station Numbers...

On my Samsung HDTV (LN40A550), the digital station numbers keep changing. Example: I have Cox Communications as my cable provider and the ABC Network Digital HD Station number is 711, however in the Channel List sometimes my Samsung TV will switch from 711 to 54.5 and then back to 711. I never know which station the HD ABC Network will be listed as. This happens to a few other HD Digital stations as well which makes me loose these stations in my Favorites settings. This is extremely annoying as I have to keep adding and loosing these stations in my Favorites Settings. I have another Samsung HDTV and the same thing happens on this one also.

P.S. I also have 2 Sony HDTV's and this NEVER happens with those sets.

If you're using a cable box, use that and it's remote to select channels and/or create a favorites list.

If you're not using a cable box and the coax feed is directly connected to the TV using the TV's clear QAM tuner, then it sounds like a "quirk" specific to the Samsung TV's.

I kinda figured it was something specific to the Samsung TV's, but I wanted to find out if there was a fix for this problem. I emailed Samsung about it but still waiting for a response from them.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions on this problem.

If u are on QAM, the carrier is free to change channel# with no prior warning, I hear. Probably a gimmick so u have to pay for a set-top box and a more expensive service.

It is very easy to get confused with a digital cable broadast from a station "named" 7-1 from a local broacaster who used to broadcant analog TV on RF channel 7 but who now broadcasts their primary digital broadcast named channel "7-1' on RF channel 54.5.

... or 711.

We're discussing digital cable, not OTA. Read the opening post for a description of the "symptoms".

I have digital cable and FOX's primary digital channel is identfied as channel cable 711. and over OTA via cable it is identified as channel 11-1

There is another forum on AVS for HDTV reception. Also, one for cable reception... I believe this problem is talked about there.

Here is the response I got from Samsung:

"We apologize for the inconvenience.

We recommend you reset the TV and setup the TV again and run auto program and check if the issue persists or not.

This will reset all the settings to factory defaults.

Below are the instructions to reset the TV to factory defaults:

Press and hold Exit button on the TV Remote Control for 10 seconds."

I'll keep you posted if this fixes the problem.

UPDATE...This did NOT solve the problem!

Did you ever find a solution to your problem? I have comcast cable in San Francisco and I have a samsung LNT4066FX and the QAM tuner also switches channel 2.1(FOX) and 5.1(CBS) to 109.2 to 109.1 respectively even while I'm watching those 2 channels. When it happens both channels become 109.x, never just one of them. The past few nights, I couldn't find where FOX HD and CBS HD went. It's no longer at 2.1, 5.1 or 109.2, 109.1
Thanks for any help,
BT
