The first few episodes of any show are generally pretty awful in the overall sense of the series. Just look at TNG. Farscape hits its stride later in season 1 and then never stops.

I've seen the first three. Not so hot. The third one has an agent of Scorpius but I don't see an episode entitled Meeting Scorpius. Do you have an episode number?

Season 1 episode 19. This is when Scorpius enters the picture. Episode 18 sets up the reason he is encountered.

Some of my favorites from season one are :

ep 12 The Flax
ep 14 Jeremiah Crichton
ep 15 Durka Returns
ep 16 A Human Reaction

Watch, or watch not. There is no skipping.

The first season is up-and-down, but you should be reaching "Pk Tech Girl' and "DNA Mad Scientist" soon, that's when it starts to pick up. "They've Got a Secret" and "Till The Blood Runs Clear" are two more mid-seaon arc episodes.

From "Durka Returns" and on, the show stays mostly in high-gear. Scorpius first appears in "Nerve", which is the start of a season-ending 4-episode mini-arc.

No frelling skipping allowed!

Thanks for the input. I promise not to skip, just wanted to know how long I had to wait before it got as good as its rep.

Farscape is very serialized, and even the lesser/worst episodes usually have something of importance to the overall story arc, even if it's just a small character bit.

"A Human Reaction" is of the highlights of the first season, if not the whole series. It really kicks off the main Crichton arc.

Oh, it gets good before Scorpy shows up (have you met Chiana, yet?), but when he does, things kinda go up another gear.

First you'll watch the show find its legs, then you'll watch it find its wings, then you'll watch it find the crackers.

Don't listen to him, crackers don't matter.

"It smells like puke"

"I pre-digested it to increase´╗┐ its potency"

"IT'S PUKE?!"

One of the what I call "defining" episodes of Farscape. There are plenty of other examples, but this one REALLY says what the show is about, that this show ain't Star Trek or most any other conventional SF show.

^^
one that was even more unconventional - Lexx
which I only saw sporadically, but what I did see...it was not Star Trek

I love Lexx as well, but it is definitely an extreme acquired taste, sort of like a haggis-lutefisk combo platter topped with caviar.

Farscape BluRay on sale at Amazon for $59.99

Still no word on TPW being released by Lionsgate. I don't think they are going to release it at this point given the state of catalogue Blu-Ray in retail markets.

So the bottom line is yes this set is worth an upgrade or no?
By the time people buy up these upconverts, they'll have found --as if by magic-- the film elements for a proper HD transfer... I'll wait...

It depends on how much you like the show. If you really like it, sure. If you are just a casual fan like I am, then you should stick with the DVDs unless you can get the Blu set at a very low price.

On sale again today as Amazon's Gold box deal.

...I've been watching the blu-ray edition and, for the most part, looks great...it's sad that the powers that be decided to cancel the show when, from what I read, had one more season to go...

15th Anniversary pack. New low price, more bonus content, same upscale. Still, if you haven't already bought it, you're running out of excuses!
