This is a joke, right?

If you find Gina Carano unattractive, you're the the first guy I've heard that response from. Ever.

Sure, she has some muscle, but her curves are in all the right places. Her face is anything but masculine. I guess people are just used to seeing skinny girls in films nowadays.

Saw the movie this weekend. Very enjoyable!

She's such a tuff girl. Who needs Steve Austin!!

Saw this yesterday and enjoyed it. My only complaint was the score which seemed incredibly out of tune with the film from start to finish.

How to make a non-action action movie capable of putting an audience to sleep? Just sign up Steven Soderbergh to direct. Load up the cast with big names and then give them each 5 minutes of screen time. I liked Gina Carano, finally a female who looks like she could actually kick someone's butt but she couldn't save this snoozefest. Previous remark about the score being a total mismatch is right on. If you've seen the trailer you've seen the best parts of the film. I was disappointed in this film but I shouldn't have been surprised.

I've read this negative feedback as well but I've also read others thought it was quite good so this one maybe up to each person flavor. I personally hate the ocean 11's films, traffic, and most of his films so right now I'll just keep an open mind and watch it when it's out on dvd for Carano's sake. Just for the record Sex, Lies, videotape is about the only Soderbergh that I thought was genius.

Wowsa..another big let down after ghost protocol. I'm on a serious drought here...what's it going to take geez. Ok Soderberg is an absolute hack but this one takes the cake. This was one of the weirdest, strangest, trippiest action films I've seen. What and where the F was he going with this crap? this thing made no sense and will put you to sleep faster than an 8am college calculus lecture hall on a cloudy monday.

Let's get 1 thing out of the way, Gina was ridiculously amazing on her 1st debut on a relatively big budget with a group of veterans. Struggling young actors would have to go through bunch of tv and small films before landing in a part like this. The fight scenes were brutally realistic but it was repetitive before the 2nd act. Why and why did they have to make this film so freakin complicated with so many stupid pretentious plot turns, twists and sabotage? I have no idea why, this is an action film geared for non-thinkers so why?

I still have no idea what the plot or story was granted I dozed off for about 15 min in the 1st hour but still it shouldn't have to be this convoluted. And lastly again this weird flick was like on mute the entire time esp during the action scenes when she was running...either that or the sound technician was sleeping himself while editing this film. Gina is really good though, she doesn't have to do physical stuff,..she's has a lot potential to do anything like romantic comedy but I can see her doing stuff like the thing or part of squad or team like hunger games or predator. She made all the men in this film seem girly...freakishly athletic.

The scene where Kenneth is on the beach alone, quietly listening to the waves, when out of nowhere Mallory comes charging at him and they fight silently for a couple minutes -- man, that had me and my friends in hysterics, with how ridiculous it looked, with no explanation how she found him or why she charged at him like that ... the movie became a joke.

The best part of that though was how Ewan McGregor tries to climb up that rock with absolutely nowhere to grip with her RIGHT behind him. That had me in stitches.

Some other good ones:

-When she slinks out of the air to confront Antonio Bandares in the end.

-The random deer getting hit after the passenger comments on how good her driving is. Not sure if that was supposed to be an attempt at humor, but nothing else in the movie was intentionally funny.

-How they replayed previous scenes from the movie as if the story was intricate and hard to follow.

- The way she mourned Channing Tatum while he was dying. This is a guy she knew for a few days (most of which they were butting heads) and ended up sleeping with once. He also kicked her a$$ in the coffee shop.. She must not have had many friends.

-In the scene at her Dad's house, how she puts on all that cammo makeup as if shes gonna hunt a Predator. She basically took down two dudes in that scene, most of which we didn't even see.

Just finished it. I am surprised at the negativity. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Seen better movies, but I loved the lack of shaky cam throughout and that I could actually tell what was going on in everything from the car chases to the fight scenes (and the fight choreography was well done). Also, liked some of the 'silent' scenes where the music took precedence such as the foot chase scene and one of the shootouts early int he movie....added a bit of style that I liked.

Wisely they kept Gina's lines to a minimum since she's not a great actress, but she was passable for the most part. She sure is nice to look at though.

Plot was obviously lacking in areas, but it was good enough for me....pretty typical for this type of movie.

Anyways, glad I watched it...Refreshing to see action scenes that don't rely on tight shaky cam shots.

And only because I'm bored and can't sleep, I'll respond to this stuff (and don't get me wrong, I'm all for nitpicking)

I loved that scene. I know you probably wanted it to say "1 Year Later" or something and then have 15 minutes where she tracks cell phones or hacks a computer or shakes down a local to find him, but I didn't think it was necessary. I just assumed that somewhere between the previous scene (where she vows to find him) and that scene (where she finds him), she was busy doing something to find him, and I didn't feel I needed specifics. In fact, I was expecting it to go into specifics, which is why her appearing on the beach like that surprised me and I liked it.

I actually rewound to watch that part with her running up to him on the beach again because I thought it was a great shot composition (I will give you the Ewan climbing the rock face for some strange reason though...that was ridiculous)

I liked them hitting the deer, but could've done without the smart comment immediately beforehand. I wish that chase scene would've gone on longer though.

I believe she knew him and worked with him for quite awhile (not just a few days). The only reason he beat her up was because he was mislead into thinking she had gone rogue.

I can see why that would bother you, but it doesn't bother me. Just because someone puts on camo, doesn't mean they have to take down 40 guys. I know Hollywood has kindof engrained that when an actor camos their face, that's what you should be expecting. But I fully suspect that in real life (disclaimer: not implying this movie is at all realistic), that even if a Navy Seal was taking out one person, they'd still put on camo...because hey...better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it, right?

Again, not saying it's an outstanding movie or anything, but just figured I'd counter some criticisms. Like I said, I enjoyed it.

I'm glad you had a good time with it, seriously. It was horrible for me and found almost zero redeeming qualities but I will never get in the way of someone else liking it. Those things you quoted me on were actually funny tid bits I found from others that I thought were very funny.

mproper -- As noted in earlier posts, I liked Haywire too. I agree that it isn't especially memorable but it is a fun action flick and Carano was perfectly cast as a kick-ass girl operator.

Ill be giving this one a rent.

Just finished with this one. Not much to it - nothing but a showcase for Gina. Jason Statham dressed as a woman. I thought the script was really weak. It seemed so incoherent that by the end when everything is revealed, I couldn’t care less. Worth the rent just to look at Gina, but no replay value at all. And that body...OMG!

I thought as much....
SS gets crushes on these women and throws them into a movie.

That's funny. Agree with general kenobi, the score sucked. Should be interesting to see how she does with a different director. The SS purposeful B movie effect didn't really work.

Although haven't seen the movie yet, the trailers don't show her as a great thespian.
My guess is she will have a similar longevity as the porn actress in the previous SS movie.

She's not a great thespian, but her athletic skill is impressive. People like Chuck Norris, etc made a career with very little thespian skill. A female version will likely do even better. Unlike a petite actress hung on wires, she doesn't have to fake it.

Yeah, I thought the same way. It's refreshing to see a female action star that actually knows the motion potential of her own body. I'm not expecting soul-revealing acting in a film like this.

I enjoyed this movie. The plot was serviceable, if tired, but the action was exciting. GC was believable in her role, and never cringe-inducing in her delivery. She's not Streep, but her character was not one Streep could play.

I guess I will see for myself...NF sent my a copy today.

Dear Mr. Soderbergh,

Get over yourself already.
Take a few years off and sip Mai Tais on a tropical beach somewhere.

Sincerely,
A guy who was smart enough to rent Haywire, not buy.

What a craptastic, screenplay on the back of a cocktail napkin, boring, shallow, style over substance, non-charismatic lead with an annoying voice, BS movie if there ever was one.
I want my frickin' 2 hours back...

Agreed. This was a crap movie.

Frank -- I have always thought of you as a guy who, like me, appreciates loud dumb films so long as they are exciting and move quickly. I saw the loud and dumb Haywire in the theater and, because I went in with suitably low expectations, liked it. Believe it or not, I gave it 8 Stars out of 10. Further, its runtime is only 93 minutes. Its star, Gina Carano was excellent and the always reliable Ewan McGregor turned in another first rate performance. I would be surprised if you didn't like Haywire, too.

Most of the critics liked Haywire, too. The reviews collected at Rotten Tomatoes were 80 percent positive.

Did you CARE?
Not me, the only thing worthy of positive mention is the slick cinematography and excellent use of music to amp up the vibe.

oink -- I've always been an easier mark for new movies than you have. If they are slickly made, move quickly, and aren't too long, that's usually enough for me. That was the way I reacted to Haywire, despite its nonsensical plot and obviousness. Some viewers, like you, just have higher standards than I do. Thus, be warned not to spend your money on my say so alone.

I didn't buy the Haywire BD but have created a wish list entry on my TiVo to record it when it shows up on one of Cox OKC's HD pay cable channels.

There isn't a release date over here so I could be waiting awhile or take the plunge and blind buy it. Though after killer Elite I became quite hesitant on doing blind buys.

Renting it not an option?
