Infocus X1 replacement lamp worked briefly but now red LED flashes three times

Hi,
I have an Infocus X1 that had the original bulb last for almost 8 years. After it died, I ordered a new lamp that worked for about 3 weeks before the projector started having problems again. Upon powering up, the fans come on, I hear a sequence of chirps (is this the lamp attempting to strike?), then the red LED flashes 3 times. I had the lamp replaced, but it does exactly the same with the new one. From what I've read, the ballast power supply could be to blame. It doesn't appear that this part can be ordered directly, so getting another projector for parts or finding a power supply on eBay seem like the only options. Is it worth taking to someone who specializes in electronics repair at this point? Is it worth trying to track down replacement parts? Or should I give up, sell the new bulb, and buy a new projector? Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

If they can't order parts, you are just going to spend money paying somebody to tell you the ballast is blown.

I've seen used working X1's with no bulb go for 30 bucks on ebay.

Have you tried unplugging it for a while and then plugging it back in? Sounds silly, but I've read a lot of comments about lamps not starting up that can be "fixed" by leaving it unplugged for a while. I'm guessing you already tried this.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Orangezero: I had originally been hoping it would be something simple like that, but I wasn't so lucky...

Verge2: I guess my only other question is whether this sounds like the symptoms you would expect if the ballast is blown. Would there have been any warning signs, or would it simply work one day and not work the next?

Sounds like finding a working one for cheap is the way to go. I'll keep you posted!

Yup. Sounds like ballast to me.

I may still have a few X1s that were retired for other reasons. I can check if you're interested.

Thanks again, everyone. I ended up buying another X1 that was working but had display issues. After moving the power supply ballast and bulb into my original projector, I have a fully-working unit.

Now the question is: what to do with the new bulb I purchased? It doesn't work if I swap it in. It's now past warranty, so I can't return it. It's hard to believe that both new bulbs would not have worked for me. Has anyone had problems getting replacement bulbs (in my case, the SP-LAMP-009) to work in InFocus projectors?
