Does anyone know where dialup parameters and credentials are stored?

Does anyone know where dialup parameters and credentials are stored?

Someone mentioned a file somewhere that stored that stuff. There should be a username and pw for the DUN and the address on the internet to connect to. Does anyone know how to change that?

I have some networked units that I can run WIRNS for, but I have some dialup units too, at remote locations with no internet. But there is a phone and I do have a dialup account.

If I can put the necessary DUN stuff in the unit and have it connect to my WIRNS server through the internet using my own dialup account, that might be a clean solution.

And that might be more straightforward that the FREESCO stuff. It could be appropriate for others.

It's stored in the "FLASH" area. It's not clear how it is updated. I'm hoping to find out.

Well, if you can get it connected to WiRNS, then it can at least set the phone number, but not the user name and password. However, that might be a bit of a catch 22, but maybe not...

The dial information that the RTV receive from the phone number request also contains some user name and password information, but I don't know how it works. Ian Prest documented this for older units, but listed that information as unknown. Docuemntation for new units, which are networked, doesn't include any information about dialing...

I have some hdds out of showstoppers, I think. Maybe I should connect them to a computer and see if I can find anything.

Now that "Space" has tested free long distance dial with Google voice, you might want to consider just having your remote units dial into your home WiRNS.

FREESCO/VMware can be difficult, but I think that will be easier than getting your remote replaytv's to logon to the Internet, then contact your home WiRNS instead of "replaycentral".

I did test using Google Voice to dial in to LaHo, however right now it is a manual process, because there is no way to send the "#" that is required after the phone number is sent to GV.

If the LaHo people add a new number that includes the "#" at the end, then you should be able to add your GV phone number and ",2," to the dial prefix and then be able to have the Replay dial and connect automatically.

You can't fit your GV number AND a second phone number (with area code) in the dialing prefix because there is only room for 22 characters (unless you are able to dial your GV number without using an area code).

That's disappointing, but since WiRNS stores numbers in the window registry, for example "globalnum" is it possible to get around this limitation?

The phone numbers can be changed (they are doing it with LaHo), but I don't think it is possible to specify an arbitrary phone number for WiRNS to send to your Replay (at least not yet).

Also, be aware that 5xxx Replays have a Dialing Prefix that can only be 6 characters long, so that is even worse if you need to use dialup on these models.

...

I am arriving at this conversation late and might have missed something, but have you tried using a regedit command to directly set the SysConfig field GlobalDialup/US/Primary or PrimaryInfo ? This might allow you to get information in bypassing the normal checks from the user interface.

No, but I think the goal here is to get this working for LaHo users, so any change to the phone numbers would have to be done from the LaHo server.

I don't think that's the case, more to use our own dialup service to dial into our own Wirns.

But it's all moot now, the epg is going to remain up.
