The "OFFICIAL" Pioneer Elite VSX-52 / 53 Owner's Thread - Page 20

i've got the same receiver as you and theres no blue light, its one of the things that's on the vsx-53 but not the 1326

IMO I'm GLAD its not, on my old 1015tx the blue light on the standby button was so annoying i taped over it cause it would blind me while watching movies in the dark

edit:
look at the pics in the links, no light on the 1326 and yes with the 53

http://www.pioneerelectronics.ca/POC...HOP/VSX-1326-K

http://www.pioneerelectronics.ca/POC...ceivers/VSX-53

btw... i love this thing, miles and miles ahead of the 1015 and people back then said that was an amazing receiver with a great amp, never liked the mcacc on it but it seems pioneer has restored my faith in mcacc

Ya learn something everyday!
Where is this Elite VSX 1326 sold?
I've never seen it in the States!

It also comes with a 3 Year Warranty compared to my Elite VSX 53's 2 Year Warranty!

Myself, I like the Blue Light around the Standby Switch, it is very reserved and does not look as bright as you may think.

Actually - I have had 3 of these vsx-1326 units over the last few weeks.
The other two (that I returned) - DID light up.
The one I have now does not - which is why I noticed that something was missing.
So it would seem that this issue is hit-or-miss on the 1326's.

Quite frankly, this is very odd that Pioneer would have such inconsistency in their product lines - how can one 1326 be different from another in such a simple way.

Mind boggling. I will still try to see if I can find any FutureShop stores that actually have any left in stock. I have checked two so far and they were sold out.

...And thanks for the links to the pictures of the models - that helps, but still does not explain why 2 out of the 3 units I had - "had" the blue light, and the one I have now does not.

Perhaps it's the other way around -- those two that "had" the lights were oddballs. I have a 1326 as well, and I checked yesterday -- no blue lights when on or standby.
I think you're right.
Those two were probably the oddballs.

I just went to two Future Shop stores and, while they did not have any 1326's hooked-up, I checked all the other Pioneer avrs that were powered up, and (none) of them had a power/standby button which was illuminated.

Weird that I'd get two units with it "enabled" in the first place - oh well...

Now this gets me wondering if there's a jumper setting inside the unit that enables/disables it - as I am sure Pioneer wanted a simple way to sell the VSX 53 as a VSX 1326, since the guts of the avrs are identical.

I will try to source some schematics for the avr and see if there is such a simple solution to this - being a jumper setting, or simple wire that was disconnected (and taped off).

Thanks for the replies, guys !

Elite VSX-1326-K I believe is exclusive to Future Shop in Canada. I don't even think Best Buy (same corporate parent) has it.

I'll check my unit tonight for the blue light! ****Update - no blue light, but everything else appears to be working great!

I too purchased the vsx1326 from future shop and returned it today because of popping between input sources...the sound was a nice step up from my yamaha v863 receiver...I am going to buy the yamaha A3010 its yamahas best so its got to be good and I like the sound from yamaha so I'm hoping the A3010 sounds as good or better as the pioneer amp...I would have kept it only for fear of damaging my speakers it really is a good receiver and from the few people on here having the same issue tells me future shop got a real bargain on these units so if anyone knows of online dealers who sell the yamaha line please send them along

With your 1326, what was your setup ?
I had the pops/thumps too, but narrowed it down to the fact that it did not like my original ps3 (fat) model.
My futureshop 1326 is working fine with the newer ps3 (slim) model.

Future Shop sells the vsx-1326-k in Canada.
I think it is some sort of "special edition" made exclusively for Future Shop, but it is the same chassis, guts, and features of the VSX-53.
(blue light excluded, of course) :-)

In fact, when you go to Pioneer's website and download the manual for the VSX-53, the pdf they give you is for the vsx-1326 !!

Is there a way to do a "hard" reset. I am getting no sound out to the speakers or headphone output. Everything comes on, can switch settings, remote works, etc. I have tried the reset of all settings, but that didn't fix it.
I unplugged the receiver last night to change out my power conditioner, and upon starting it up, I got this problem.
My 1326 was doing it with my samsung 3d bluray player BDP 6900 and the pop it makes was very very loud not all the time but in my mind it shouldnt do it at all and after reading some people had the same problem I didnt want to be stuck with a paper weight but after listening to my yamaha v863 the pioneer definately sounds better but i made my mind up I'm gonna get the yamaha A-3010 I think that amp will sound great and the reviews are great

Think it does this when you set the screen resolution to native, so when I go from 720p ESPN, then go to 1080i HBO the receiver lags a bit. I have the 52 also and it is a little annoying.

Turn off any video converter stuff from the receiver and I think it helped a little. I like the native settings, so I am getting used to the lag.

assuming you are putting out native, this is being caused by a resolution change forcing a renegotiation of the handshake...

if you change channels from NBC to CBS, do you still get the delay?
Yes it is very annoying...doesnt matter what channel I go to...cbs to NBC to ESPN...it is a good 5 secs and I am channel surfer.

I am a novice at this this stuff so forgive my stupid questions...understand the lagging from converting from 720 to 1080 but how do I turn off video converter stuff and can I change native settings (and how would I do it). Please forgive my stupidity.

Thx for the help...really appreciate it

Try going to the settings in your cable box and setting a specific output resolution. Your only 2 practical options are probably 720p and 1080i, that choice is up to you. If its on an Auto setting or a Native setting right now, thats probably where your problem lies.

Once you pick a forced output resolution there should be no reason for any handshake renegotiation which should eliminate the delay. The video converter on the receiver can be left on or off depending on how you like it. In my experience having the video converter on dosent slow anything down.

Hope that helps

do I have to manually change the setting to pass thru from Amp each time i want to change this. My Denon 4308ci passed thru with no changes in the settings when in stand by mode

Has anyone else noticed (inconsistent) audio synchronization issues ?

I was watching Fringe tonight, and it was obvious that their lips were not moving with their voices - which was very odd.
Not by a lot, but enough to be noticeable - and annoying.

I changed channels, and watched various different networks and it was inconsistent.
The audio for some was synchronized properly, but for others it was not.

When I switched it back to Fringe, it seemed to be "better", but not perfect - so now I am at a loss with regard to what is causing this in the first place.

I know that AVRs can introduce audio sync issues, since they are trying to process video and audio to then pass it on to your TV.
I know that there is a setting on the AVR to adjust the audio delay - but why should this be so inconsistent - even with the same channel/show ?
Even if I adjust it on the AVR, then that would affect all other programs I watch and I will be constantly tweaking this thing every time I change a channel.

I do not notice this with watching Blu-ray movies - only on television.

It is really quite annoying and now I can't help but be super sensitive to seeing it whenever it happens.
Does anyone have some information/experience with this as well ?

I think that there in lies the problem..
Who is the Service Provider for your Television viewing?
Let me guess, is it Satellite or ATT U-Verse?

I have read numerous posts about audio problems with Direct TV, Dish and the worst being AT&T U-Verse
Though usually it is about Audio dropouts and not Sync issues.

I have Time Warner Cable in two locations, one is the Pioneer VSX 1020 and the other has my Pioneer Elite VSX 53.
I have never seen any Sync problems at either location...
Unless I'm watching the old Asian classics Godzilla or something like that! LOL!

However I am in the US, so I do not know that much about Canadian TV.
I seriously think that it is a TV Provider issue and not the Pioneer, if it was the Pioneer, I would think that you would also see it on your Blu-Ray's and other components in.
You could bypass the Pioneer all together for Audio and run your Audio to your TV Directly and see if you still experience it.

Good Luck,
Bud B

Can someone please advise me where I can get a good deal on a vsx 52 or 53 receiver? I am located in NYC. Unfortunately for the reasons discussed in this thread I am unable to find a deal on Amazon. Thanks in advance.

Looking at possibly purchasing the VSX-5 to replace my VSX-21TXH. No 3D pass thru. Should i wait, is pioneer announcing another lineup of Elite AVRs soon??
Depends on whether you want to spend a ton of money on minimal improvements, or get a deal on some model clearout.

The Non-Elites were announced on April 27 2011 and I believe that they started to hit shelves in July 2011.
Usually Summertime is when you see the new Pioneer's show up.
So, you have 3 months to wait for the announcement and then 3 more months before they are shipped.

Since these are starting to show up, I wanted to start a thread for them.
I purchased my unit Sunday as a replacement for an Elite VSX-32.

If you go to the First page of most threads, you can see when the Model hit shelves.

I hope that helps you with your decision.

If you are in NYC itself, you have J&R at Union Square and then there is B&H, you have a lot of places.
You will have to see what kind of deal that they will make you.

If you buy an Elite anywhere ON-Line, you Automatically Void the Warranty!
Though many do and then get a Warranty from an Independent company.

Just an FYI:
If you get your new Elite home and it has the Popping sound between sound-fields, which is rare, but it has happened,
I know because it happened to me!
Because I purchased my Elite from a Authorized Retailer, I just got back in my car and took mine back, swapped it out, no questions asked and the one that I have now is fine.

This did create a problem for some that purchased theirs On-Line!
Shipping back etc...though I think that most were able to get it resolved.
But that really goes with any On-Line purchase, if there is a problem after arrival, it is a bit of a pain. But you save a lot of CASH!
If you can put up with a little frustration after the purchase, then You roll the dice and take your chances.
Chances are though that your Pioneer will be fine!

Good Luck and when you get one...Enjoy!

I recently purchased a VSX-52 receiver to power my home audio system; my second zone outputs to an amp that is running my whole house audio systems. I have found that the control for Pandora and Rhapsody, which are my girlfriend's primary music sources right now, through the VSX-52 HMG are pretty much horrible. Running these require me to use the Elite's remote control to select 1 letter at a time, slowly, on one of the connected TVs.

The entire point of the system I created was to access our media servers for music and movies, internet radio, and all of our other media sources without any other equipment being on and having full feedback \\ control on our handheld devices. The only work around to this that I have at the moment is, the obvious, run the Pandora and Rhapsody applications from my phone and select the receiver through airplay. It is slightly annoying that if I am having a gathering, or even when I am alone, that the music has to stop if I get a phone call.

Short of trying to have a programmer alter the pioneer application somehow does anyone have any, more user friendly, suggestions for remotely controlling these services with the receiver as a source as opposed to my phone?

Thanks for any suggestions anyone might have. I apologize if this is a stupid question and I am missing something simple; I am a relative novice when it comes A\\V equipment.
Thanks. That does help, just wondering what improvements if any at all to the new lineup there will be. Not in a huge hurry but i can get a pretty good deal on a vsx-53. I'll decide. Thanks for the input.

Thanks for your feedback, Bud.

I found the issue of the audio synchronization problem when viewing TV shows.

Apparently during "Prime Time" viewing, here on Rogers Cable (Canada) - we have a choice of viewing the same program on many different channels.
Some of these channels are Canadian, and some are American.
If a Canadian network and an American network are "showing" the same program at the same time, Rogers Cable does something called "sim-subbing" - (simultaneous substitution).
This is where they take the original US broadcast and play it on the Canadian channel like always, adding in Canadian commercials at the breaks.
Then, they take "that" combined (US show + CAN commercials) feed, and use it as a "substitute" on the US channels that are also carrying that program at that exact time.
This way, Rogers Cable is making sure that even if you watch the US channel, you'll be getting "Canadian" commercials - not US commercials.
So, its all about advertising dollars.

Unfortunately, the net effect of doing this is that they are introducing an audio/video mismatch in doing the simsub.
Thankfully I get enough channels on cable that the primetime shows are also available at later times (different time zone from the Western network feeds) - which are not simsubbed. I'll record these ones and eliminate the issue of the primetime broadcasts.

Crazy.

At least it is not an issue with the AVR - but with what my cable operator is doing for the sake of retaining/increasing advertising dollars !
Hi IceManKent,

I figured that it had to be "Source" related because I have been all over these Pioneer threads and yours was the first Sync problem that I read about.

Glad that you were able to figure that out as well as a work around!

Enjoy,

Bud B

Well, I ordered my first Pioneer yesterday, a VSX 52. I was on the fence between it and a Yammy Aventage A2000, and decided to pull the trigger on an Elite. Im feeling a little lost, as Ive always been a Yammy guy, and know their products and technology. But looking forward to learning MCACC, and the Elite. Im super impressed with everything Ive read about it and looking forward to hearing it! Im coming from a mid range Yammy receiver, an HTR series so this will be a huge upgrade for me.

I'll be powering 2 Polk RTi10's in front, Polk CS10 center, and Polk FXi6's for surrounds.
