Budget sub for under $200?

Thread Starter
1. Under $200, would prefer $100, looking at the Polk PSW10

2. No size requirement.

3. Small room, about 500 sq. feet.

4. Split between 40% movie, 30% gaming, 30% music.

5. Not blasting loud but about average

6. Prefer black if possible, not a requirement though

7. None

My current setup is a 6.1 with a
2x Infinity Primus 362s for L/R
1x Infinity Primus 351 for Center
1x Polk M20 for back
and Polk Monitor 50 for left/right
i care the most about the Front 3 though
My receiver is a Onkyo TX606. Thanks!

With the Infinity you have, the Polk 10 won't add anything to your system. The only thing it will add to is your electric bill. Your Infinity reach lower in bass than the 10 does.

At $200 and lower, the Lava subwoofer and BIC are it. Outside of BIC and Lava there is nothing else to look at. Even the BIC V80 is a better sub than the Polk 10, and it is smaller.

http://www.amazon.com/BIC-V1020-Down...1744306&sr=8-3 (and if you still need a lesser sub)

I see, do you believe that I should add a sub or wait until more money is in hand?
look at the post again, there are 5 options(the Lava 10 is over, the Lava 8 is in your budget).

Those 5(unless you look used on Ebay/Craigslist/Audiogon) are it...$200-ish and under.
Wait until you have more to spend. Don't skimp out on the sub. It is a key component in your system.

Keep an eye out for a gently-used Energy S10.3. It's a great small sub!

Prices for units in good-to-mint condition should be in the $150-$200 range.

i see, where exactly would i find this, in the FS/FT section?
someone local is selling the s10 for cheap, $130 i think i should get that then?
If it works, yes. The 10.3 is the current one, there was also a 10.2 and a 10(technically can be referred to as 10.1).

On this site, or on used-goods sites like Audiogon, kijiji, eBay, etc.

If it's in "good" or better cosmetic condition, and in 100% working condition, yes.

Is 500 ft2 considered small now?
I would hope "small" and "500sf" is a typo somewhere...

ahh i thought compared to others 500 was small, but the buyer hasn't responded. Are the Energy ESW a notch below the XLS?
and would the XLS or the BIC if they are under $200?
thanks!

The BIC F12 would probably be your best bet, unless you find something used.

500 S.F. x 8' ceiling = 4,000 cu. ft. NOT a small room!

12' x 15' x 8' = 1,440 cu.ft. would be a small room.

found energy xls-8 for $60, rooms smaller than my estimate, i think thats a good deal?
it's a good deal but that sub will not be enough for the room size.... if you add a second one it could be OK but don't expect deep extension.

get this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Energy-S-10-3-80...item3a64d9464a
