I had forgotten, but now that you mention it, it's funny. He was one of the first people who went with Ruben's general design, he even purchased the exact same chairs ruben did. He did trim above and below his red panels, but no baseboard. His paint color is slightly more orange than mine, and he went with half-octagon columns. Also he did not break up his panels at all. He did single large unbroken panels. It would be almost ironic if I ended up duplicating his carpet.
Carpet is just one of those things that a sample doesn't do justice for. You can see a 12" x 12" square and like it, but over an entire room certain colors/patterns can be distracting. That's one reason I was in favor of a "two-tone" black, because it won't really be noticed with the lights down. A red-based carpet that goes up to the screen however, might stick out a bit.
My chairs are only black, not black and red. But I do like the carpet. Not solid black, not too over the top pattern wise.
