Subwoofer for 12x12x8 room(preferably budget)

Besides the BIC F12(its on my consideration list), is there any subwoofer out there comparable for the money?

Used mainly for gaming, movies, and some music.

Budget up to $400!!

Will be paired with a denon 2112 and three htd flat panel speakers up front. Placement will be in left corner of room!!!

Thanks,

Aaron

My opinion is save longer and spend more for a good sub or 2. Or look for used if your really strict on your budget.

My recommendation is a gently-used Energy S10.3. FMV for a good-to-mint unit should be in the $150-$200 range. It's a great sub for its size and price.

anymore suggestions?

Given the room size and intended usage I do belive the F-12 will work out! You can get into a better sub if you are willng to go used but that may not be the case.

Other options for new are:
Bic pl-200 for $270
Pa-120 for $215

Driver, amplifier, and box all $. Not much to choose from at the <$250. BIC F12 pretty highly regarded for the price. My advice is hold off and save up as it would be worth it or look for some deals used as flick said. I was pretty surprised at the Premier acoustic pa-150 review by Ricci and in your size sealed room I think it would work well.

Lava 10" another choice and you can get avs discount by contacting them.

Wish I had the room for a 15" sub, but have to stay with at least a 12". I always debated about getting a 10", but after having a 12 for years in my car systems, I can't justify going smaller.

Lava over the Bic any day.

15% off on a 12" and you have it to your door for $290. Getting great reviews, great CS too!

That Denon is nice! Im getting my Rush ;-)2112CI next week.
Try to buy the most sub you can afford. I would save up so the upgrade bug won't "BUG" you after your purchase.

With your budget the Lava would be a great high quality starter sub MUCH better than the BIC.
Have fun with the Denon!

You can get the BIC right here at AVS:

I don't think you can beat it at that price.

LOL! Yeah, AVS hates it when you suggest that people buy stuff from them!

Looked great...until I saw the shipping fee. Perhaps you meant you can't find a higher price.

Is there a coupon code or can you only get 15% off by contacting them? Thank you.

NM. Looks like you have to contact them and they'll send you a unique code.

Sorry about that, I didn't check the shipping costs, my bad. You might want to take your complaint to the sellers, AVS. You know, the folks who set up and maintain this forum.....!

Do we have Lava fan boys now? Granted I've not heard a Lava sub, but...

A driver with a plate amp inside a square box...woop di do...

anybody here willing to do a blind test between the F12 and Lava LP12(I think that is the model number...)???

You want a HT based subwoofer on a budget under $300 go with Bic. If you want an all round performer for music and movies the Lava is a better choice

Lava has a bit more weight to it and a substantially heavier driver

Why? I don't see them making any false claims that they have the lowest price.

If I went with the Lava, I would have to get the 10 for space. Would it be worth it say over a Bic Pl-200(another sub I am considering)?

Thanks,

Aaron

Upped the budget a bit. Won't be buying used. Looking at the HSU Stf-2 and Emotiva Ultra 12 right now. Any other suggestions beyond going above that price range?

Where are you located? I'd love to split a pair of Ultra 12's with someone ($800/pr).

That's a very small room. A VX-11 is a great fit.

After talking with Leo from HSU, ended up ordering the Vtf-1 for 50 bucks more. Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Sub was delivered today. Hooked it up within 5 minutes and used Audessey to tune the system. I knew this thing would be loud, but its incredibly accurate and compares to my 12" car subwoofer in sound quality. Glad I made the decision to spend a few extra bucks!!!!

Congrats! Enjoy your new sub
