I picked up the 60" with 2 pr of glasses and top sharp bru-ray for 1999.00.
They want 3k for the 70" version.

I just upgraded for the LC60E88-un version. It was a great TV. Wanted LED though.
I sit 12ft from the TV so the 70" should be ok.

My LC-70LE735U arrived today after I sold my 65VT30 due to the picture being too dim for my tastes. I am using the cnet settings and have been extremely happy with the picture watching NFL playoffs and Chicago Bulls game today. Very happy I made the switch. I have Chad B scheduled for a calibration next Sunday and am excited to see what the picture looks like after calibration. I do not see any clouds, and do not find the corners to be noticeably dimmer than the rest of the picture. Very happy owner.

The Sharp branded glasses are on back order through local retailers. I was told the Universal glasses by Xpand (X103) would work. I spent about an hour with two pair unsuccessfully and even called Xpand tech support which confirmed they will work with the 735.

I'm concerned the 3D emitter is broken in the set since this was an open box buy. Anyone else have any luck with them?

twarman17 would love to see before and after pics of calibration. I am as well thinking of getting the 735u

Wow please keep us posted. This is a very interesting situation for both new and used/open box/refurb/whatever purchasers since the set doesn't come with 3D glasses and so it's not inconceivable that one may not know if the emitter doesn't work for quite some time, perhaps beyond the point where Sharp would fix it or replace it without cost.

It took just under 4 weeks for my glasses to come in.

My point was more that some owners may simply choose not to buy 3D glasses with any urgency, purchasing the 735 (with 3D, versus the 734 without) more for future proofing than for watching 3D stuff straight away.

The TV was defective. Only thing I can figure is the emitter isn't working. I tried both the Xpand and Sharp glasses. Neither worked. Took both glasses to the display model at retailer and they worked. Fortunately, the store had another set and swapped me out. I'm happy to report the new set is working fine and both glasses work as they should.

The new set does have very faint clouds when the screen is all black. The other one didn't. Hopefully it will get better or I'll learn to live with it. If not, it may have to go back too.

Well, I can't remember the NX720 in particular, but I've done an HX729 recently which is fresh in my memory. Personally I would choose the 735, because it's blacks are more neutral (Sony's blacks are a bit bluish and the dimming makes them fluctuate). The 735 has DSE more, which might be a problem for some people. But I think the 735's strengths are a bit more powerful than the Sony's.

chad is the 732 anything like the 735 besides having 3D and 240hz?

The 732 doesn't have the 10 point white balance/gamma adjustment.

Am I being TOO critical with my clouding issue?

Here is the deal, viewing at night, in a darkened room, with dark letterboxed or black screen scenes (thing when a blu-ray first spins up and puts out a "black" signal only) I can see some clouds... like at the start of Star Wars when the disc displays the Lucasfilm logo or during the opening scrolling text... other than that its really not noticeable. During the day, in a brightly lit room no clouds can be seen while viewing the same scenes... (however I do most of my view at night with the lights dimmed at least a little..)

I've spoke to Fry's and they said that clouds are indeed a returnable/exchangeable offense... however they will need to view the screen to see them... which they will do in a brightly florescent lit room (not their words, just my observation)....


am I being too critical of the panel? I know I'll notice it forever... but I dont know that it raises to the level of what would be considered return/exchange worthy.

Chad? or someone that deals with these on a regular basis? Should this "at night only, in dark scenes only" clouding problem lead to a return?

I can provide pics of it... once it gets dark on the west coast.

I decided to get this one after determining the 80 inch Sharp, was a tad too big for my room. I'm coming from a plasma, and hope the clouding issue is not that bad. My opinion is that the black bars should be just that, black and not have clouding in it. A dark scene should be dark, not have clouding. Any tv should be able to do that, and at the price they are asking, it shouldn't even pass their QC. I would not settle for something that will bother you from day 1.

Haven't found it posted in this thread, but is there any audio lag with this unit when going through an AVR? I noticed on the 732 thread people are reporting that issue, and wonder how prevalent that problem is with this set.

My first guess would be yes - unless you have a TV with local dimming - it's possible you will see some clouds - no matter which brand. The clouds might be better or worse on your new set, so if you like to gamble.... I don't watch mine in the dark, so I (thankfully) don't notice any clouds!

Below are two setups using the two consumer software packages avaliable, both using the i1 Pro. The first software required that you choose Plasma for the display to obtain a good result. The second worked by selecting LCD LED backlight. Both calibrations are listed below. I prefer the second one, but not by much. I will perform another calibration with Color Gamut range set to Expanded in the next month or so.

Keep in mind, that these values worked from my television, but may not work as well on yours. Like it or not, the electronics differ enough that there is no such thing as a universal calibration setting.

Control Disk was the AVS HD 709 blue ray in a OPPO 92 player run directly into the TV.

Auto had the closest calibration out of the box, but neither 10 point grey scale or color gamut are available. Movie was the only AV mode that provide both 10 point and color gamut. The choice was a no brainer.

Blue was the only color that was a problem. (with both software packages) I spent more time on Blue than all the other colors combined and still the hue was difficult. Calibration was at 75%. 100% left all colors washed out, really washed out. When you change colors or even percentages of grey scale, the set would take 10 to 15 seconds to calm down.

Delta E 2000 all values were under 1.0.
Delta H all values were under 1.8 except for Blue that was at 4.1.
Delta C values were all under 1.0.
Delta U values were all under 0.2.
Grey Scale was +/- 0.5% except for 10 which was +/- 2%.

When you select 10 point under color temp, low, mid, high is no longer available.

Wow. Wondering - what did you do differently bt pix 3 and 4. In 4 the black bars above and below the scrolling text look much brighter.

I do see the clouding in all your pix. Ick.

exposure time is the only difference in the pictures.

I have similar clouding on mine too. Have you tried pressing on the screen? Its my understanding it's caused from non-uniformity in the screen.

Since new models were announced hoping to pickup a 735u around January 27 would love to see a little price discount

I haven't tried. The more I read about it the more common it seems on many sets. The nature of LED-LCD. Have to get into full array with local dimming to get better. And that's twice the cost. The Sharp Elite looked great in the showroom but not at 3x the cost.

Calibration? Comparing the cnet calibration results, the ones above, and others posted on here make me question the whole process. None of them seem close to the other. If they are specific to each unique build then it seems silly for folks to copy them.
