I've got a question that relates to elegibility for receiving the national feed of PBS in NC. Though I don't live in the part of NC that this Board mainly is concerned with, my problem pertains to living in any part of the state not within a market served with local channels on DBS.

I live on the fringe of the WUNU digital signal, about 35 miles from the transmitter, I'd guess. I get the non-digital signal OK, but the digital one drops out maddeningly, even with my new rotary antenna. DirecTV dropped me from the national feed. My understanding is that they had to drop anyone who was elegible to receive a LOL PBS station, but I live outside any local satellite area. I wrote to WUNC asking for a waiver but they wrote back saying because I live in the service area of WUNU, Lumberton, "the satellite service provider (DirecTV) can not provide you with the PBS National Feed. Under the new regulations, there are no provisions for the granting of your requested waiver."

Can anyone tell me whether WUNC is interpreting the law correctly?
