Message just appeared on screen.

ReplayTV and it's parent company, DNNA, have decided to continue the electronic programming guide service pursuant to the terms of your service activation agreement.
I just saw the same message. The pressure must have been too much on them. Thanks to all those who applied that pressure

Are you serious or joking? I don't have a machine showing a different nag message yet.

No joke. It's there. They backed off.
I'd love to see that message. I've already migrated my three units over to WiRNS. Can you post an image? You aren't April foolzing on us, are you?

replaytv.com, myreplaytv.com still resolve to http://digitalnetworksna.com/replaytv/ with the well known "so long buh-bye" kiss off message.

Force a net connect and you should see it.
This question might violate posting terms but, if I switch over to using WiRNS while my monthly Replay still shows "Activated," does that mean that I now have a lifetime unit?
Just saw it. It's legit need to force net connect

Picture of screen attached

Well done guys!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy Fark I think that's for real...

(if not the end of the whole story. )
Yippie, the AG offices are probably what did the trick, as well as panasonic, the clock set problem and the false promise of manual recording (repeating) on 3000s and showstopper.

Here is message on showstopper.

Hi all.. yes, this is for real.

Those doing the LaHo beta can set back to Replay.

More details and speculation to follow

I wouldn't get too excited. Notice the wording.

Here's where they raise the monthly fee to $50 a month to get rid of the pesky monthly users.

Do I sound cynical?
Thanks for the screen shot. As my favorite boss at attglobal (yeah, the primary dial provider that did, and -- to my knowledge -- still does the nighttime connects for free) would say:

WHAT A GOAT RODEO.

That is what I did and saw it too.

I just called the support number, and they had no idea that this new decision had been made and the messages were being posted on the units. He wondered if it was a hoax.

Also - my activation did not change back to Lifetime after that net connect. Not sure if they plan to have monthly's again.

I want to know how long DNNA will continue. If it is only for another few months, then we still need LaHo and other solutions. If for years, then who knows.

Can anyone who has more direct contact with DNNA find out their plans?
Why would they want to get rid of "pesky monthly users"? They are the only revenue source DNNA has if they continue the EPG. $6.95 or $12.95, whatever, is better than nothing. Since the EPG service is basically a fixed expense, the revenue situation for DNNA is a School of Business Econ 101 problem: What rate can they charge that will increase, and not decrease, revenue?

Wonder how in the world they are going to handle all the units they activated. Unactivate them? Do they even have a way to do that? Leave them all lifetime activated and forget it? That would depend on how many there are.

Not like the blanket activation they sent out to everyone, that was easy. Everybody got it.

But if they are gonna shut off the units they activated during this debacle that would be more difficult. They need a database, and programming. It could cost money.

Clearly the money is not important to them, they dumped us, remember?

FWIW I suspect Panasonic pulled out the old contract and that's why this happened.

But the attorney general letters couldn't have hurt.

I think we are at least 2 weeks away from anything along those lines. May need to go back to "lifetime is lifetime" just because of TMS agreement. That means new keys to lock it back up? If that is even possible at this point. And it will take way longer than that. But they may need to try for the sake of TMS legal.

They can un-activate any Replay they want (at least the 4xxx/5xxx) unless that unit is isolated from DNNA (WiRNS or LaHo). That could be a reason to stay with your alternate solution.

They could even make the units download new software, changing the encryption to make WiRNS and LaHo useless.

As to a database, don't they HAVE that (activation records). Any unit not on that list that calls in, gets un-activated.

That is why everybody with 4k and 5k should make a backup image to fall back on of the current status.

They just updated the website in the last few minutes, monthly folks will be charged again soon.

"After the announced shutdown of the ReplayTV programming guide service, we have had many positive, enthusiastic comments about the ReplayTV DVR products and services. In light of this response, ReplayTV and its parent company Digital Networks North America, Inc. have decided to continue the electronic programming guide service pursuant to the terms of your service activation agreement. We thank you very much for all of your support and enthusiasm over the many years these products have been sold.

As we have said previously, the analog programming that the ReplayTV units are capable of recording is in fact likely to be converted to digital signals in the very near future at which point the ReplayTV units will no longer be able to record such programming. We encourage our users to consider digital video recorders that have this digital recording capability as well as additional technological advances which are not a part of the ReplayTV units (all of which were end of lifed by 2006). For monthly subscribers of the ReplayTV service, we are exploring options by which you may continue paying for and receiving such service going forward. We apologize in advance should there be any minor disruptions in the ReplayTV service while we implement the continuation of the programming guide. Thank you. ReplayTV "

That won't be enough. Need to keep it off the real mothership if there is a new 5.3 lockdown in the works. At the very minimum weeks away... but it can update the prom and lock us out all over again. "NoSoftwareUpdate" should be enough I think for the networked units but if one has an "unsafe connection" (if that ever comes to pass) all bets are off.

Under what circumstances do you see the new message? I did a Menu/Setup/Connect to ReplayTV Service Now and a 243 Zones Net Connect and do not see the message. Previously, every time I chose Channel Guide or Replay Guide the infamous nag screen would appear. It is not showing up any more, but this new message is not automatically showing up.
Even tried a Menu/Messages and there is nothing there.
And Service is still just "activated."
Are they sending out the new message to groups of Replays in sequence? Seems like it would be on the server and everyone who did a Net Connect would get the new message.

By the way, the message is set to "Expire" on Mon, 31 Oct 2011 00:00:00 GMT!!!

I am guessing they will remove it before then, however, I know I don't want to put up with it for another 3 months!

There it is... sounds like an impending relockdown to me.

For showstopper I had to do a net connect, then a hard reboot (unpluged power) then after it powered back up, I pressed guide.

You mean they are sending out software updates that would destroy integrity of what the RTVs can do? What do you mean by a lockdown?

I clicked on the link and still saw the "permanently discontinued on July 31, 2011" screen.
Between that and not seeing the new message, I guess central Texas is in a protective bubble, unconnected to what else is happening. No wonder tech services, which is just up the road in Waco, is not aware of what is happening.

Just my gut feel, but if you're Panasonic, a Japanese company that's dealing with other major stuff, maybe you don't want some bad customer will.

On a personal note, I wonder how I can migrate back to the great WiRNS stuff based on replaytv channel guide feed. Do I need to go back to WiRNS 2.0?

Anybody who threw it away, sold it on the cheap, or somehow corrupted their unit trying to find an alternate guide method is going to be kicking themselves now. And DNNA is entirely to blame.
