Condo DSX Theater and Gaming Lair - Page 2

I would love to do a basement reno into a dedicated theater. I've seen many threads on here of peoples theater builds so I have several idea's how I want mine to look when I do. It will be a good many years before I can afford a house though, especially if I keep buying new gear. And the fact I have to maintain all my PC's too, money can dissapear pretty quick.

Hey Everyone,

I have been inactive for a while but just thought I'd post a quick update. I did some work on my place recently, new baseboard and door/window casing in my two bedrooms. Since doing this I have also switched the rooms around moving my LAN room into the master suite for added space and comfort while gaming. The old room was only 9x11 and the new one is 11x14. I also had an electrician install some 20amp plugs since I had issues blowing the fuse with all the computers running, especially in the summer with my AC unit. I am also in the process of upgrading one of my PC's to a Core i5 2500k system with Z68 mobo, possibly my main.

I'm back with some serious updates. I did a bit of renovating in my living room and I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.

Here's what I did...

-Moved theater setup centered around fireplace
-Added/mounted height speakers
-Painted entire room
-In-wall wiring/wall plates
-new baseboards/moldings
-aggressive cable management

I thought I would share my step by step progress of the in-wall wiring with you in case anyone else is contemplating doing this. It's fairly easy to do yourself.

I got the signs on Ebay. About $13 per sign. They look even more professional in person than through my camera.

I don't understand, what do you mean how I have the surrounds set up? The 3rd pic on post #40 shows my right surround with the wire neatly pinned to the wall. The pic below that, I just missed the left surround with my camera angle, sorry. Trying to show the rooms awkward shape as well. I'll get more pics up later.

Heights are better than rears I find. They tend to get more action.


I can't please everyone! Haha. The chairs are on the riser because the TV is too high for the seating distance, would be like front row at a theater otherwise. I am planning to rip apart my mantle and rebuild it giving me a chance to lower the TV. I would have done this along with everything else but my friend who designs that stuff was busy during that time and I just wanted to get my theater working again. Also because I re arranged the room and had no where for the riser to go, I figured I'd use it rather than throw it out, sort of convenient. I may also build risers for the speakers though.
