Thanks. I now have 4 Golden Keys. smile.gif

Should have 5 by my account (2 from preorder, one from joining Shift, and 2 from codes) but no biggie since I haven't even used one yet. No need, as the weapons I have are far more than adequate to get through the game so far...nothing that obliterates Badasses in one shot (which I wouldn't want anyway) but good, solid weapons when used properly with the right tactics. Probably will use one of the keys when I get L50 though, just to see what all the hubub is about, but not expecting anything world-changing. More than likely, it will give me something I will sell immediately.

Wheeeeeeeee! Nothing like an item that sucks every ounce of challenge or fun out of the game! rolleyes.gif
Now, now. Until I get the 32,000 shields and 42,000 health at Level 33 of the first playthrough, I'll still be challenged. Plunking bosses from across the map also seems inhibited, since longbow grenades magically miss anything I'd prefer to deal with from huge distances.

I just want the abnormally high damage stuff that BL1 had. Say you've seen 198 damage on most snipers, then all of a sudden a 400 one pops up. Well, I'm not seeing that, or I'm too jaded to accept one that fires at less than one shot per second. With my slag sniper I can run backwards emptying the 26-shot clip at over 6 per second. I'd like one that hits harder. No element required. Although, I still haven't seen one that does explosive damage...

They're new to BL2. Usually they fire some sort of energy projectile - like a railgun bolt, balls of plasma, or a blaster effect.

E-tech aren't REALLY alien weapons. The barrels are supposed to be alien but they look identical to regular guns. Purple, although the friend who gave me one called them pink.

http://www.bl2wiki.com/E-Tech gives the names to look for. I've sold several Dart pistols thinking they weren't all that good. Perhaps I was too hasty...

Good thing I work from home. Bad thing my boss knows my gamertag and will see I was logged on an hour ago.....if he happens to look (maybe when updating his own code wink.gif).

Can you set your preference at xbox.com to login without appearing online? =P
post #429 of 847
About all you can do is hit B rather than login right after booting, go to System then Preferences and set your status to appear Offline, THEN log in. Every single time, no permanent setting...
Yeah but if your not logged in can you get to Shift?

Agreed as I sit grumpily at work unable to partake.

The idea is to set yourself to look Offline, then log in to LIVE. No friends can see you, but no bosses either. Do whatever you want, like Shift codes...

Used a key today. Only got one purple rocket launcher, but it's 8,000 damage versus the 1,200 one I was carrying. I'm giving it a chance...

What level? I just picked up a blue L29 launcher laying on the ground that does 20,000 damage. Had another that was yellow that did 5,500 X 3 since L24.

Spyder why do you care so much about his quest for high level guns??? Apparently this is somehow affecting your enjoyment of the game and I can't for the life of me figure out why. confused.gif

The launcher is a Level 23 dum pa Blaaa with 8427 damage and explosive elemental. I'm also Level 23 so if I'd waited it'd probably be better. Not saying I'd have PICKED this one even with the damage, because the other features are weak compared to my kind of rocket launcher.

What I was HOPING for was another E-tech sniper. After looking up what the E-tech stuff was like, I discovered the Social Railer caustic sniper rifle I've had for quite a while was one of them. It's one of those annoying burst-when-zoomed models that have less control than I like, but a friend said it looked like I was firing a laser rifle so it's kinda cool. I just want another, more traditional model with as much damage as I can get...

I agree. The little text blurbs on the loading screens talk of massive damage, but if I try to get that at too low a level I get flak...
High damage weapons are fun to use once you almost finish the game. You go back after you'e already cleaned out an area(which was a challenge b4), and then you just go god-mode and obliterate anything in your path! That kind of stuff is always fun after the fact.
If the damage of the weapons seemed like a linear progression as you move up in level, it'd be more reasonable.

However, if a Level 50 sniper rifle does 13,000 damage, then I'd expect a Level 5 to do 1,300. Well, I can't say that I ever saw such an item at Level 5. At Level 26, I'll be able to use one I have tucked away that does over 800, but that's a far cry from that reasonable thing.

I'm not all that interested in spoilers, but somewhere along the line 'reasonable' apparently goes out the window. I'm just not sure I'll still want to play at that point...

I'm simply curious as to why he's supposedly getting such "crappy" guns. How anyone plays the game doesn't ruin it for me, but I find it perplexing that so many others ruin the game for themselves. He'd talked about pretty much quitting the game if he didn't get a boatload of orange weapons on his first playthrough, which ISN'T going to happen. I think that's both odd and sad.

Apparently, I have one of those guns. I LOVE it. Didn't even know it was one until you described it. It's a fire one and it absolutely obliterates enemies. Key is to fire at the chest and let the burst recoil flow up until the last shot is a perfect headshot. Sorry to hear you aren't having any fun with the game due to your incredibly bad luck in finding weapons. If I had thought about it, I would have saved you the L26 sniper that I had that did 1350 damage (no elemental.) although I should state that it was trash, imo. Shot slow as hell and didn't do nearly the damage that other guns with "lesser" stats did.

What's SAD is that the boatload of orange weapons I had during my one playthrough of BL1 set me up with expectations for BL2 that it isn't living up to. The Claptrap DLC included a building with like 14 chests, and it was a bad run when I didn't see either an orange or an eridian weapon. Did the DLC early, then kept visiting as the main quest progressed. Near the end, it was hard to find an upgrade, but not to find orange.

The Level 26 sniper in storage is only 800+ but it's still far ahead of what I've found so far. No orange sniper drops yet, although a Mordecai quest for booze will get something OK-ish I hear.

The good stuff isn't in machines, and isn't being dropped. If it suddenly drops after I reach the level that the developers decided it should, then that's kinda OK. It had just better DROP.

I'm not a masochist. I don't want to wander out with crap equipment and need to pay for revivals. Dark Souls was a 1-night rental because it was harder than I want. BL1 was not hard, mostly because weapons that worked well fell often after they were 'unlocked'. Whatever unlocks that in BL2, be it story progress or leveling up, it isn't as good as I'm used to. Lowering my expectations takes a while. Forgive my expressions of pain over my dissatisfaction. You mileage has apparently varied...

OK I just got ahead of myself and was attacking lvl 27 stuff at 26 and got shredded. For the first time I got red drops I can't use yet too. Little bit more and I'm there but I found a nice spike in difficulty.

I don't think you need to lower your expectations, but I do think that you suffer from what I call "Weapon Racism." If I gave you a gun that was orange, but had crap stats and didn't work wirth a damn, would you be happy? No. In my inventory right now, I have 5 blue weapons and 4 yellow ones. No purples, no orange. I use 3 blue and one yellow as my mains and the rest are backups used for situational purposes. (Corrosion for machines, fire for humans, Tediore: explodes on reload for element resistant, etc.)

Every one of these guns is rated at L28 and L30 and I'm at L33, so every single gun I have could be considered as "underpowered." That's the way it's been for the entire game for me; always guns at lower levels than I'm at. I apparently picked up an orange at one point, but I don't recall using it, so I likely threw it away or sold it immediately. Purples are often weaker than my blues. That said, there hasn't been a single instance in which I've felt like I couldn't hold my own or that I was weak in any way with the equipment that I'm carrying. Shotguns are 2 blasts to the face and everything but the baddest of badasses dies. Snipers are one-shot kills on regular foes, so long as they are headshots. SMGs light up robots with corrosion and in 2-3 seconds they die. Pistols kill in a single round of quick-fired bullets to the face. My assault rifle seems the weakest of the bunch, but it shoots quick and explodes on contact.

I'm simply not understanding what's going on with your game at all. You either have the worst luck of anyone in the history of the game, or you're expecting that an orange sniper is going to mean the difference between being a BL god or instant death the moment you step outside Sactuary's walls. I doubt it's either. I'd like to help, but I'm not sure what can be done, barring someone comes into your game and gives you a fresh set of orange weapons and mods every few levels. I have nothing of the sort. Maybe you could hit up coyote_5 (ElDuderino) as it sounds like he and his partner have duped their way to the finish line? Beyond that, I have no answers. Good luck!

Small nit: yellow weapons are orange.

Levels being equal, the W->G->B->P->O rarity progression will lead to better specs as you move up. Sometimes O relies too heavily on the special effects, but it's still better. Comparing different manufacturers is a mistake due to things like all-elemental and what have you. It's got to be Jakob's-to-Jakob's at the same level.

Yes, except for the key chest, we always get offered stuff below our level. Guests might trigger drops of higher levels, but then you can't use them. In order to get offered higher level items in machines and 'live' vendors, you have to progress the storyline. Progress it too fast, and you'll be in danger of having to fight enemies you can't beat because they are levels above you. That's why the weapons always seem underpowered. I can grind all I want trying to find the best stuff at the current level, but there's a cap on how powerful that will be. I can go out, kill enemies I've killed already and level up all I want, but the machines won't offer better stuff unless I do the story quests. That's just the way it is.

So, if I have Level 13 weapons I still can't find acceptable substitutes for, it's because they hit sweet spots in features that just aren't being found in Level 21 weapons I see in the machines at Level 23. Cartel Railer is Level 15. I'd prefer better, but nothing shows up. I can't even remember HOW I got the Cartel Railer in the first place. I'm only at Level 23 because I'm frequently running through Sanctuary looking for Michael and shopping for whatever randomly shows up. I don't feel a need to finish a $60 game in record time. That just seems a waste.

I dislike going out unprepared. When I got to Sanctuary and noticed eridium was plentiful, I spent hours collecting all I needed, bought every upgrade available, THEN left to do more missions. I try to do the same with weapons, but I have to settle for what comes along. I've now seen a total of 6 orange items. Sold one to a friend (100,000 was a no-brainer deal for a pistol with 19 damage), stored a couple, carry the rest. If I see something that makes them look obsolete, I'll consider using whatever comes along until I get another better item. I'd prefer orange, because you get features in orange that exceed what you get in any other color item, except maybe for some of the non-orange items with red text. Purple items can have red text but orange items ALWAYS have it. Red text MEANS something, perhaps more than in Borderlands 1 due to the paltry number of orange items being found. Purple items can have red text but orange items ALWAYS have it. And that's why I want them.

So my game goes slowly because the flow of items I want to carry is worse than Borderlands 1 based on what I think was available at this point in the game. I see no reason to go faster and die a lot. I do see a reason to try to find the weapons I want, even if it's a futile search. I believe other BL1 players are also unhappy, but don't waste their time complaining online. Me, I think that's why the Internet exists...

How do youy tip Moxi? When I approach her all I get is the X to talk and she doesn't say/do anything.
You need to look at the tip jar....there should be an X to talk and Y to tip option when you look at it. I needed to tip her close to $14k before she gave me a weapon.

I was tipping her last night to get the first weapon, she does the "well you deserve something back for that" line.. Starts like she is going to hand me a gun, then that idiot guy in moxxi's started talking and it ended her animation and talk. Does she just hand you the weapon?
There's a glitch. If you hit, leave Sanctuary and come back without doing any other missions. Then tip her $1,000 and she should give you the gun you just missed out on.
