Thanks, Bill

dunno... i'm "guessing" not, since they specifically tell you to use the left one... but you could always try...

if not, just don't bi-amp...

Do these receivers have discrete MCACC selections? In other words, can I go directly to one of the MCACC memories or must I scroll through 1 through 3 to get to 4?

I don't think they are on the OEM remote, but the codes are available on URC/RTI remotes.

Hey guys, can someone PM me a source for this receiver at a great price? Found one on Audiogon from an authorized dealer, but called to get some info before I pulled the trigger, and it took them three days (called and left message each day) to get back to me. Unfortunately the price went up $50 in that time frame.

So, please let me know where I can get an SC57 cheap!

Thanks!

since there are no authorized internet sellers of pioneer elite equipment, your best price can be found by picking up the phone and calling all the pioneer dealers within reasonable driving distance...
Unfortunately there no longer any authorized Pioneer Elite dealers in Boise, Idaho. I think Best Buy could order it, but I am certainly not interested in retail!

So... Even unauthorized... Or if you guys know an authorized retailer that will sell one out of their area, let me know.

35% under retail is about the best you can get. Google is your friend.

Or you can wait for a good offer on Audiogon or AVS classifieds.....when the new AVR's come out later this year, or someone has a case of upgradeitis.

Hey maybe you guys can help me.

I picked up a SC-55 tonight. Moving up from a SC-37.

When I first started the player & hit auto surround I wasn't getting any sound from the rear speakers.

I'm running a 7.0 speaker setup with 6 tower speakers with subs in them & a center channel speaker.

When I used my SC-37 if I hit Auto Surround it would show as DTS-HD MA & I would get sound from all 7 speakers.

How do I get surround from the rear speakers when playing a DTS-HD MA soundtrack when using auto surround?

I have the surround back speakers set to auto in speaker setup.

I can get sound from the back speakers if I use standard sound & use any of the Dolby surround modes or Neo X: Cinema mode.

I can't figure out why I can't get the back surround speakers to play when in auto surround mode.
Weird. I went back in & selected 9.1 setup & clicked save.

Wasn't sure which 7.1 I was supposed to select so selected 9.1 & when I hit auto surround it started showing up at ES Matrix with DTS-HD in small letters around the speaker box on the front panel.

I'm not sure how I got it to start showing up as ES Matrix in auto surround.

My SC-37 would just show up as DTS-HD MA & play in all 7 speakers in auto surround.

I'm not as impressed on initial impressions on sound after running MCACC.

Again I'm running 6 full range tower speakers with subs in them & 1 small center channel with small subs in it.

I get full bass in the front tower speakers but not all the way around like I did with the SC-37.

Also the SC-37 sounds like it has more power. When I play a scene from Transformers 2 where Optimus Prime falls to Megatron in the forest it gives a good range from highs to midrange to low bass on my SC-37

I get the highs & then it sounds like no midrange & then after where the midrange would kick in on the SC-37 then it has the deep bass.

I don't know where the midrange went.

For those of you that went from the SC-37 to the SC-55 or SC-57 did it take awhile to dial in the settings to get it to sound like the SC-37? As far as power goes & the full sound?

I can't get the surrounds & the back surrounds to sound like the front tower speakers. They're all set to large & I ran the MCACC.

I tried it with & without the EQ & Soundwave on & still can't get all the speakers to sound the same like I did with the SC-37.

^^^^^^^^^^^^

Try going into the Audio Parameters and turn DRC (Dynamic Range Control) to "OFF". The default setting is "AUTO" and will affect the amount of bass you hear. Or, switch to Direct which will eliminate most of the processing Auto Surround places on the soundtrack.

It seems that my brand new SC-55 is forgetting its network connection after a while. I thought I would change the IP address from DHCP to a fixed address but it hangs when I try to do that. That requires a MASTER RESET of the receiver, loss of all connections setup, MCACC data and even radio channel settings. That's a major pain and it happened twice so far (in about a week). Would anyone have a smart solution?
When I play a DTS-HD MA soundtrack & switch to auto surround mode I can't get any sound from the back rear speakers.

I can switch to Dolby IIX or Neo:X to get sound from the rear back speakers in standard mode.

I thought the SC-55 could switch to auto surround & have sound coming from the rear back speakers in auto surround mode?

Am I wrong to assume that?

Does anyone know the exact version of Aureus that's in the -57? The spec sheet says "TI Aureus x 2", and the manual doesn't mention anything at all (that I could find). I *think* that means "dual core," which could mean the TMS320DA828 or the TMS320DA830. Or it could mean something else.

TMS320DA830:

Anyone know is the SONY STR-DA5700ES uses a Class D amp like the Pioneer Elite Sc-57? Let me know how the AVR sound compare to Pioneer's Class D3 amp.
I don't know but tend to doubt it. I had a Sony 3400es (or 3500, forget) and was incredibly dissappointed. The room correction was terrible, and the amps weak. I later (stupid, should have done this before but trusted the Sony name from long-ago experience) found out that the power output dropped dramatically (like by 2/3) with all channels driven, and it would not handle my rather inefficient speakers. One of the few times adding an amp actually made a significant difference in sound. With my Pioneer, the sound is about the same with or without an external amp.

YMMV - Don

pretty sure it doesn't

interesting, 4 port ethernet switch built in

and it streams video, so it is now the trivia question answer to which AVR's can stream netflix
post #2328 of 3857
Anyone besides me miss the days of strong 7 channel amps and a less cluttered connections on the back .
They keep throwing more channels with anemic amps and more bells and whistles than the average person will never use with the exception of room correction seems to be getting better or at least on the upper end.

Can anyone make a recommendation for a network media player that they use with their SC-55 I have a WDmedia hub but it doesn't seem to work with my Sc-55 over HDMI. I was thinking Popcorn Hour. Thoughts?
I'm not sure HDMI will be how it works. Wouldn't you use an Ethernet network? That's what I'm doing with my ad-hoc PC solution (still haven't settled on a streaming app, experimenting with iTunes and various DLNA servers).

So you're using the wd media hub connected thru hdmi to the sc57 and you don't get sound or video?

That doesn't sound right, there is no reason it shouldn't work.

Are you streaming or running a connected hdd to the media hub?

I get a picture but it's green and fuzzy, the sc-55 seems to be trying to auto calibrate the resolution. I tried to force the resolution but that didn't work. I replaced the hdmi cables, but nothing.

I am running off the internal hd on the media hub. I will post pics later.

\ hat sure doesn't sound right

you can turn video processing off completely in the pioneer

heck if you setup properly, you can run the video through without it being on

there is the ole tenant of troubleshooting, find what works and change on thing at a time

Agreed! Denon has especially succumbed to this trend. Even thought the SC series now support up to 9 channels, the SC amps appear to be very competent at 5 and 7 channels. This is why I replaced my Yamaha 2600 with an SC-37 last summer.

I just got my sc-55 almost 2 weeks ago and sometimes I notice it locks up. When you turn it on it'll just sit there nothing happens no pic or sound and you can't shut it off by remote or power button. You have to unplug it from power then plug it back in and it works fine. Anyone else having this issue?

First make sure no wire strands are touching anything if you are using bare connection speaker wire connection seen this way to many times at clients homes. If no take it back.

According to this it should be set up for WPA and preferably WPA2.

Hi guys,
New to the forum although I have been lurking a while.

I have had my SC-55 for a couple of months and enjoying it.
I have not been able to get it 100% tuned yet but I am limited to Pioneer Elite in wall speakers that I am not thrilled with. I have not tried towers yet to compare.

My Zone 2 is going to a Sonance Sonamp 1250 MKII powering several sets of in ceiling speakers and outdoor speakers. I am getting a lot of distortion now through this system compared to before when I used a simple 4 ch. amp to pass the signals. Is there some sort of external EQ I could put between the SC-55 and Sonamp to clean up the signal and level?

I also run a set of book shelf speakers off the Zone 2 amp and they sound killer. Great power, its just the Zone 2 out that I am seeing distortion on.

PS - everything is run through a Panamax M5300-PM

TIA
