For audio, right click a few files and choose Cover Art/Get from Internet.

For video, right click and choose "Lookup Movie Info". It's one movie at a time right now. You have a choice of TMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, and Wikipedia.

If that doesn't work, please provide details.

The window where you can choose the particular image comes up with no options. Btw I have tried this for multiple known albums with no luck.

Edit: When it is pulling the media from my folders it is miss tagging 50%+ of the item even when the folder structure is correct. Is there anyway to search for and correct the needed tag data or am I stuck doing it manually?

Also once I correct the artist name in the tag from various to what it actually should be the cover art search works fine

Double Edit: I am still not finding cover art for albums with correct artist information

I too am trying the trial and having difficulty with audio setup between 2 channel display and AVR. To have audio to display I have to enable FFDshow and select none under bitstreaming. Audio to AVR requires disabling FFDshow, selecting hdmi under bitstreaming. Audio output is WASAPI.
Windows would automatically select output to display when AVR is off and to AVR when I turned AVR on. Can this be done in MC16? Thanks

I'm 1cm away from biting...

I'm going to be using the audio part only for now...

Anyone has idea how I can launch from within 7MC to play music?

Need more information regarding the licensing model... I'll be installing on two PCs and two laptops, there will maybe be max two concurrent usage from time to time if madamme wants to listen to something else than I want...

How many licenses to I need to buy?

Strange. You shouldn't be using ffdshow manually for anything. In options>video there are settings for bitstreaming or not.

Create two zones. One for AVR, which you can set for bistreaming. One for display, which you will decode and send two-channel audio to. You can play to either zone as you wish. Not automatic, I guess, but you can switch between zones with ctrl-T IIRC.

Just the one. Currently (and since at least 2007), the terms are that any PCs that are "yours" (within reason) can run J. River Media Center. In fact, running multiple instances on different PCs at the same time is one of the key features for audio/video distribution.

I have MC running on the following:
Dining room
Media room
Home Theatre
Desktop
Laptop

It's nice to be able to control what's playing where from any of these locations, too.

Thanks. If I use directshow audio works for music files to each but I still need to manually select. BD won't bitstream until I change to WASIPI. I'll look into creating zones.

A firewall could do that.

Anybody know if JRiver is developing an iPhone remote app for JRMC? WebRemote works pretty well--especially with the Avid2 skin--but it's still a far cry from Apple's remote app. That's one thing that iTunes and Foobar have going for them.

All in all I'm really liking JRMC; thinking about making the jump when the trial period expires.

EDIT: Ok making the change I saw that the TV changed to 24Hz when I played the Bluray movies, and remained at 60Hz for the DVD movies. Nice. Used to have trouble with the rate changes with WMC+MPC-HC with judder and jerks, so ended up fixing the rate at 60Hz to keep it smooth.

So what settings did you actually change? Just the FILM to 1980x1080x32x24? Mine was already at that, but I'm still having jerky playback with bluray and dvds in this software.

Try setting video to Red October first, and then Red October HQ. Does either work?
I had very jerky playback trying Star Trek BD iso. I tried a variety of settings but enabled Videoclock and I think that made the difference.

Video clock only makes a difference if you are not bitstreaming audio.

I'll uncheck it and see if the jerkiness returns - it was very different than stutter I've seen before. It's like milliseconds of forward then reverse - two steps forward, 1 step back. 5 or 10 seconds of that then 5 minutes ok, then jerkiness.

Finished building my first HTPC this weekend and have been doing some testing with a small Samsung 1080p TV we have in one of the bedrooms. Initially tried to get 7MC and MB going per Assassin's blog, but no joy playing MKV's. Installed MC16 and had great HD MKV playback even with RO-HQ (no HW accel). DVD TS_VIDEO playback was ok in RO, but pretty jerky in RO-HQ.

Installed the EVGA GTS450 card I ordered, installed the latest Nvidia driver, adjusted my resolution slightly for overscan (cheap TV - no adjustment or "PC mode") and fired MC16 back up. Wow! Blu-ray rips looked even better on RO-HQ with HW accel, and DVD rips were fine with the same setting, exclusive or windowed. GPU is loafing at about 22% with 1080P, 7% with DVD. LAV CUVID shows active along with madVR.

Have a few things to still figure out and would appreciate pointers or suggestions, although I'm still searching for info here and in the J River forum.
  1. Since I now have GPU horsepower to burn, what madVR settings are the best to try? I realize this isn't really a MC16 thing, so I'm still on the hunt for this info by searching the forums.
  2. I will have to use 7MC for TV with my HDHomeRun Prime that is coming next week. I want to add MC16 as a plugin to 7MC (and have it come up in theater mode) and likewise add a way to get back to 7MC from MC16 wtihout going out to the Windows desktop (we are talking Harmony remote here). I think I know how to add it to 7MC, but not the reverse nor how to have it start in theater view.
  3. My DVD rips are in ISO. I added the file type as data, but I cannot figure out how to get MC16 to treat them as video. I extracted the TS_VIDEO folder for now on a few to test with.
  4. My metadata solution is to use Media Center Master to tag everything and MC16 pickes up the major tags from the sidecar files and creates corresponding JR sidecar files. Works fine except that MCM is really flakey on scraping metadata - I get a lot of "invalid XML" error messages even though the XML file looks fine when viewed as text. I managed to get all of my BD rips tagged, but it was ugly. Tried MyMovies, but the sidecar file only had basic info in it - is there a way to configure it to write more of the metadata?
  5. I'm pretty confused on how to tag TV series. I saw a post on using [series name].[season].[episode].[episode name] and scraping it with the library tool for filename-to-tags, but while I got the episode name applied correctly, the series, season and episode number appeared to be discarded. I must be doing something wrong?

This seems to be a great program, but no manual, and the Wiki being somewhat out of date is a big speed bump. A sticky FAQ with integration and metadata tips would be a big help, since it seems that's where most of the questions arise.

Frank Sinatra- Come Fly with Me
Cage The Elephant- Cage The Elephant
Bob Dylan- Bringing It All Back Home
Bob Dylan- Blonde On Blonde
Creed- Human Clay
Arctic Monkeys- Humbug

Basically any I have tried, I did have a couple work.

Found a starting point for this one - http://www.homecinema-hd.com/madvr_en.html

If you use Red October HQ (or Std), there is no need to tune MadVR. I don't think anything you do there will have an effect.

On ISO's, here's a thread:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=66416.0
but there is no need to use ISO's. MC can play a ripped DVD. It also will rip.

Apparently, browsing on desktop, and using MC16 out to AVR/2nd display using Red Oct HQ is the cause. Selected recommended Red Oct and plays well. AMD Athlon II x2 245 2.91 I like that MC16 will open on last played display, but it still goes there if AVR is off.

Confused on the audio settings. I have been testing with the HTPC connected via HDMI directly to a low end Samsung TV. Sound was fine without bit streaming using DirectSound. Drug out a spare AVR and went to it via HDMI and then to the TV via HDMI. Turned bit streaming on in Video options, played with a few options in Audio to use source channels instead of stereo and bit streaming worked for DD on DVD rips, but not lossless on BD mkv's. GOt an error message about the device not supporting the audio format.

Recalled a mention somewhere about WASAPI mode - changed audio to that and I get HD audio bit streamed to the AVR.

Is this as expected? I'm a Mac guy (have a dedicated mac mini with stripped down OS and specialized playback software to drive my vacuum tube headphone amp) and have no clue what DirectSound, ASIO and WASAPI are :-)

Also getting an occasional "Exclusive Mode Failed" when starting a movie with WASAPI sound mode. Given the GTS450 card I have, I don't really need exclusive mode (at least I think I don't, I get smooth playback even in a less than full screen windowed mode). Normal?

Yeah - just need to make sure my WD TV LIVE can also use TS_VIDEO. I use it in our RV and don't want to have 2 renditions of the same movie.

Played around with the player some more. Switched back and forth on a few settings as well as re-installed some codecs and it's now working fairly decent. I still have a few stutters during scenes where the camera pans quickly but it's getting better.

One question though. I was watching a bluray and set the refresh to 24hz through CCC. From there I started streaming some netflix, while it was streaming I tried to load the 60hz refresh rate through my shortcuts but 60hz was already selected. Does JRiver automatically change the refresh rate based on the video it's playing?

You want Wasapi, so all is well there. Don't worry about the exclusive mode thing; it happens sometimes. Your video card is ample to play in windowed mode, so you should be okay there too.

Great! Thanks. I think I'm getting most of the kinks worked out. Still will have to deal with the 23/24 fps thing when I get it hooked to the big Samsung in the living room. Although I was watching Avatar tonight at 60 fps and didn't detect any trace of judder from the 3-2 pulldown.
Just specify 1920x1080x32x23 in options>video for movies, and switch on the automatic refresh rate changing. Should be all you need.

Try Lanczoz 4-tap luma scaling and SoftCubic 70 (or 50) Chroma Scaling.

The whay you set up "Fill properties with filename" depends on how you named the TV Series. In my example I had filename "Lost s1.e01 Pilot.mkv so my fill was [seies] space [season] dot [episode] space [name]. In your example above, you would use the filename sequence "Lost.s1.e01.Pilot.mkv (I'm using mkv format - your's could be different).

Great...

The only thing left (not completely a show stopper anywayz) is to be able to launch the program from within 7MC for music...

Is this possible?

I downloaded the music support plugin for media browser yesterday but haven't had the time to see how it works yet... my intention is to see if JRMC can be configured as an external program in media browser to lauch for music files...

Are there other methods?

This is just to keep going until I get the hang of how tagging works (if I ever will)... I just don't seem to get it at this point in time...

Thanks.

I think JRiver relies on the FPS listed/tagged in the movie's properties, so if you don't have a fps listed for each movie/show, MC will not change the resoultion. I noticed on my 1080p movies, MC automatically added the fps. But I use MyMovies to gather the meta-data and in MyMovies I have to name my folder "moviename [Blu-ray]" so MyMovies will downlaod the Blu-ray data for the movie (or I can manually change it myself). Without the meta-data indicating that the movie is HD, i don't know if JRiver program will automatically add the fps tag.

So this is the long way to say - check your movie properties (the screen in my post above) to see if the FPS data is there.

I thought I did exactly that, but I didn't see the info show up in the tags. I'll give it another try. I also found an article about how to name the files so MCM will scrape the TV metadata from TVDB or whatever it is they use for TV shows.
