Just downloaded and installed on a test HTPC with a DVB-S card in it.

The card was seen by the program, and I could select DVB-S and country but that was it.

Didn't see how to scan / configure channels or start live TV... I guess that is in the pipeline...

Waiting eagerly for the oncoming TV changes...

Click on TV Options. Scan for Channels should be in the dropdown menu.

I have a technotrends budget S2-3200 card in the test HTPC...

NVIDIA GT 440 Video card

Intel C2D with 4G RAM, Windows7 home premium 32 bit

My findings so far:

- Scanning is a bit slow, but it works well with both standard and HD channels.
- Red October HQ does not work well despite the amazing quality... For SD channels, an out of memory error message pops up in exclusive mode but continues to work. For HD channels, the same message pops up and image freezes but audio continues to work
- Red October standard works for both SD and HD channels, but with a slightly inferior quality compared to HQ
- No LAVCUVID... I guess ROHQ out of memory error message is probably due to not being able to offload image processing to GPU... I may be wrong though...
- If LAVCUVID is installed separately in the OS, will it be usable in JRMC? Will try this tomorrow...

I believe LAVCUVID was combined into the LAV Video filter.

Try toggling "Use hardware acceleration in MC's video options.

To run ROHQ, you need a machine that has a benchmark of around 2500 to 3000. MC/Help/Benchmark. Try reducing what else is using CPU cycles.

Installing other filters has no affect on MC's Red October unless you customize it, but I don't recommend that.

Looks like the transponder file for 28.2 needs to be corrected...

I tested with 19.2 yesterday and itt seems to be correct...

Just wanting to be sure the diseqc works correctly, from further testing today, none of the BBC channels came up from scanning on 28.2.

Where are the transponder .ini files located?

Any chances for paid channels to work?

OK, I've been burning a ton of hours trying to get XBMC Eden to work and I've had it. It's time to move to a different HTPC software. I'm going to try JRiver Media center. My use is 60% TV Shows, 30% Movies, and 10% Music. I am looking to have my HTPC act like an appliance - so the user is totally isolated from the Windows desktop/junk. I plan on using the Theater View interface. I have a few questions about Media Center:

1. Does it support a central server/client topology where I can start watching a video on one client, stop it, then resume on another client in a different room?
2. In the above topology will it mark shows as watched and when I go to another client they will be marked as watched?
3. If 1 & 2 are possible, how do I do this (simple explanation or a link to a page that describes it).

4. When will the Specials scraping bug for TV Shows be fixed?

5. Is there a way to display recently added movies?
6. Can I control how many are in the recently added movies list?
7. Can I remove movies from the recently added list or will they automatically drop off one I've watched them?
8. In XBMC you can have a trailer in the same folder as the movie and then play it via the movies's context menu. IE Avatar.m2ts & Avatar-trailer.m2ts. Does JRiver support this and if not what are my options?


I already have a test install going (thus the reason I asked question #4). I've already developed a plan to give myself the ability to do 30sec/5sec forward & 15sec/5sec backward skips (a feature we use a lot in XBMC).

Sorry for the newb questions (and so many of them) and TIA for any help.

1. You can use Library Server to serve recorded TV and movies. See the wiki topic on "Servers".

2. This may not be working at this time, but should be.

4. I don't know of a problem with specials. Sorry.

5. You could customize Theater View to get that.

8. Not at this time, but it's a good idea and shouldn't be difficult to add.

If your remote has a 5 key arrow and OK pad, the arrows move forward 30 seconds and back 10. You can customize this.

A cable card tuner purchase is in my future. I'm currently using WMC as my do it all media player but I'd like to leave the option open to switch over to J. River. I think I read that the Ceton InfiniTV4 isn't supported but the HD Homerun Prime is. Is that correct?

I have all my movies/tv shows/music on an Unraid NAS. When I read through the servers wiki page I got the impression that it would serve the video from the server to the client. Can it be configured so that the client pulls the video directly from the NAS yet the watched status/ability to restart can be pulled from the server?


Most media center software uses TheTVDB for scraping, as it appears JRiver Media Center does. TheTVDB uses season 0 for specials, IE S00E03 or S0E3. JRiver refuses to scrape these episodes - is states that they aren't numbered correctly. I can get it to scrape. I change the tag in JRiver to season 32 (any high # will do, FAIK) and then scrape the episode individually. The scrape window opens but doesn't find the bogus season/episode. I then change the season back to 00 in that screen and it then scrapes properly.
The bug is in the logic that determines if a file can be scraped - it doesn't allow season 0 but that is a valid value.

That's possible. There are some threads on Interact you could search for.

It doesn't do this (at least I can't get it work). However when you stop the movie you can note the movie's time-position and on the other client you can seek (drag the seek bar) to the same relative position and start viewing close to where you left off.

No. My client HTPCs don't do this, they act independently. If I watch a movie on one client the others do not show watched. I like keeping the views/data independent. Each Client has its own setup (display, sorting, skins, etc.).

This is easy, you set up the rules on how/what to dispaly and how to sort. I list by "date added" in one view. By "HD/Blu-ray only" in another view. By "production date" in another view. Etc.

No problem. You can use a sort/display filter to show a specifc number of files only (like display 10 movies, most recently added, sort a-z)."

Easy to do. You just show Movies/files that have not been "watched" (and you can say "not watched with last 60, 90, 120 (etc.) days" if you want.

JRiver just added a "media sub-type" for trailers and there is alot of people on the JRiver forum now setting up trailers. I don't use/like trailers, but I read it can now be done (it may be in beta still - but that just means it will be public in about a week).

This is alarming. I often start watching a video and later resume it in another room. It's a feature that for me is nearly indispensable.

I'll be working on my test setup tomorrow and I'll post back what I find.

I believe this should work just fine as long as library server is set up correctly. The only way it wouldn't is if you press stop twice (to reset) to the beginning, or if there's an option somewhere that has been set to not do so. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It should definitely be a feature if I'm bewildered and spouting nonsense. Perhaps you can wait another few days?

It's the main reason I stuck with JRMC, even when it had a fraction of the video features it does today.

I can confirm that the specials (season 0 ) is now fixed. I thought I had found a problem with it but it turned out that TheTVDB had changed the specials for a show since I had first named those files.

I've tried JRMC several times in the past, each time giving up - mostly due to the complexity of the interface, though last time it was the inability to scrape shows/movies.

It is still challenging but I'm slugging it out. I really like the ability to see a list of files and see various data about them. I've already found a few errant files and some broken videos. With XBMC I wouldn't know if the video was bad until I actually tried to play it.

Also with XBMC it just scrapes the videos. If there's a problem it doesn't show in the library leaving it up to you to infer if there's a problem by what is missing. With JRMC I can scrape what I want and see problems before I'm on the couch with a remote in hand.

I now have another issue/question that came up. Currently I use a Tivo Premier box to record OTA. I then have an automated script that pulls the recordings from the Tivo, scrapes info from TheTvdb, runs comskip, and places them on my NAS. For non TheTVDB shows, IE BBC World News America, I generate a nfo file (contains info that XBMC uses in lieu of scraping). This way I can show them in XBMC and control the data that appears with the recording.

Will JRMC automatically scrape new shows it finds? IE if I put Seinfeld-S07E01.ts into the \\\\MyNAS\\TV Shows\\Seinfeld\\Season07 folder will the library server see it (auto import is on & monitoring this folder) and scrape TheTVDB for the episode info?

Next, can I create a file JRMC will use in lieu of scraping? If not, how can I tell JRMC what info to use for some of the tag fields for shows like BBC World News?

The season 0/specials worked great! I have found a couple scraping bugs. I posted that info in the latest release thread.

How do I do this? When in Theater view I can delete from the library or the file itself, but I don't see how to delete it from the recent list.

MC will get the metadata automatically when the file is imported, if there is none.

In import options, you can set some tags to be applied automaticallly, depending on the folder where the file is located. Add a folder, select it, then choose Edit.
