Also in Options\Video\ make sure the Default languages for both Audio and Subtitles are English, and that 'Subtitle Mode' is 'Do Not Show Subtitles'
One further check is to ensure that MakeMKV has not only set the 'forced' tag correctly, but also the subtitle language. This can be done using MKVMerge\Header Editor - identify the subtitle stream and check the 'forced' and 'language' tags, changing and saving where appropriate.
