Powering up amp when receiver is turned on

I had an older model Denon that had a power outlet on the back. The installer had the power for the zone 2 amps plugged into this outlet so that they would go on and off with the receiver. I recently bought a new Denon, AVR-2112CI, so that I could upgrade to HDMI. This version does not have a power outlet. Is there still a way to have my amplifier power on and off automatically with the receiver?

Do your zone 2 amps have an option to turn on when they sense an audio signal? If they have that option (usually as a selectable switch on the back of the amp) that would be the easiest method.

Otherwise you could buy one of those "green power" outlet strips with slave outlets that are active only when the master component is powered on.

Do your zone 2 amps have 12v trigger inputs? You could use those.

I was going to suggest that, too, but the Denon 2112 doesn't appear to have 12V trigger outputs... (that surprised me)

That is surprising.

Assuming the amps have a 12v input, you could use one a Niles CS12v to sense when the receiver is on and send 12v to the amps...

I was so surprised by the lack of 12V triggers that I googled it. The specification suggests it does have assignable 12V triggers (presumably assignable depending on which zone is switched on).

I wonder if the remote out connection can be configured as a 12V trigger?

I'm curious if there is an inexpensive way to turn on a Windows XP PC from a remote location. The PC, which has my entire CD collection stored on the hard drive, has always been turned on using the power button on the front of the unit.

From my patio, I can use a Receiver web control feature and netbook's web browser to power on a Yamaha Rx-v3900 AVR. It would be nice to power on the PC from the patio as well. Both components are in the same location, if that matters.

Thanks for the link Atomic Taco.

Haven't had a chance to explore further since I just read your post and the Wiki link a moment ago. So I'm not sure if I'll get this to work. Since the PC (HP z558 Media Center) has DVR capabilities, I'm guessing it has wake-up hardware support, but I'm very doubtful that it has Wake-on-LAN support.

Every NIC I've ever touched had the capabilities built in.

Granted I wasn't messing around with NICs back in the days of 10BaseT, but I've touched a lot of 10/100 and Gigabit cards.

Yes, but the motherboard has to be able to use the signal from the NIC....not all do.
