New Monoprice floor-standing subwoofers - Page 4

Has anyone gotten the 12" Monoprice sub yet? How is it? Do you think it would be a better option than any of the ones I have listed below? I don't want to spend over $100 on a sub as I'm trying to make a 5.1 home theater system for under $500 total. I know I could get something better if I saved up more but I just want something that would be better than a sub from a htib. This will be in a 9'x11' bedroom but will be moved to a 12'x15' bedroom at the end of the year. Thanks for any help.

i had a hard time choosing which one also. but i decided to try the underdog and get a monoprice 12". I just ordered it. my only experience with HT subs was with a cheap pioneer HTIB and my brother's 50$ cheaper jvc HTIB. his was far better. but now i have a Sony STR-DH520 receiver with a few fisher speakers.

is there a way i could use my old passive sub with this one?

Not sure about using two subs at once but please let me know how you like the Monoprice sub when you get it.

for 116$ i'd say this thing sounds nice. i haven't even gotten past a good break in yet but my listening levels are half knob. i live in an apt and dont really like HUGE bass. just wanted it to reach the lower hz to compliment my speakers and not overpower them.

i have it in my 9' x 11' x8' gaming room. i haven't tried different spots in the room, but atm i have it on a table at the corner (25% in and up, supposedly get best results there). its huge but looking at the dimensions would tell you that. it doesn't look or feel "cheap", so it probably spanks that polk. only thing i dont see thus far is responsiveness.

Could someone answer a quick question for me, I'm thinking about getting a sub to connect to my lepai ta2020a+ amplifier and Sony SS-B3000 Speakers. Would I be able to hook these up to the 8" Monoprice sub or would I have to get the 12" one as it has line in and out while the 8" only has line in? I know the 12" would probably sound better but I'm on a very small budget and the room I'm using is only 9'x11'. Thanks for any help.

That would have made me spray coffee out of my nose if I had a mouthful... luckily it was a near miss! That is some funny shiat!
The problem is that the quality of the people who will be buying these are the same as those who buy HTiB. To them, it will probably sound "way better" than TV speakers, so most of the reviews will, as always, be 'good'. How many like "us" will buy and review these subs?? Hopefully, a few 'real' reviews will make it here.

This is like a moped or a fugly chick. sure it's not top of the line, but it gets the job done.

haha ya all above is true, but this sub exceeded my expectations for 100$ with shipping. the only thing i can compare it to is the cinema or HTIB. it beats my old HTIB sub and my bro's for sure.

It looks like the 12" is no longer available.

They actually did that months ago. Not sure why they would dump the 12" version and leave the 8" one. Can't imagine it's selling like hot cakes.

There is a new 12" available now, black cabinet, over $100. I wonder whether it's the same as the older, cheaper one, but with updated cosmetics.

Just ordered a 12" Monorice sub to hopefully compliment my Klipsch 12" sub. It's about $125 shipped, so it's almost a throwaway if it turns out to be garbage.

Did you get the sub? Impressions? Thinking about ordering one myself.

Just in case anyone comes across this in searches. Currently in my room I have a DIY lilmike cinema f-20 and also Monoprices new 12" sub.
Bought for a friend and had it shipped to my house with the requirement I get to mess with it.
Thought it was very good, decided to run some measurements... link to own thread below.

I well ahead and ordered the 12" Monoprice sub to go along with the 6 1/2" in wall speakers (7604). This is for my garage system so the acoustics are generally not favorable. I'm very pleased with the performance on both accounts regardless of price. I figured this would just be a "boomy" sub and there is a bit of that. . It's also capable of adding low end subtlety to the sound track without drawing attention to itself. Thats what really blew me away for a 130.00 12" sub. Physically it looks much much better than it's price. That shouldn't really surprise anyone as i'm sure the same factory cranks out much more expensive brand speakers. I'd say its cosmetically the match of any brand entry level speaker. For a modest or secondary system you'll be pleased. Audiophile quality it's not but you weren't really expecting that anyway were you? For full disclosure i've only used this system for music, no home theater.
