IIRC , there was a news item about P O I that stated the producers / writers would now push the P O I plot envelope further into the SyFy realm due to NSA leaks & issues of computer surveillance . JJ Abrams was quoted that P O I was always meant to be SyFy anyway . I thought I had booked marked the news item but I can't now find it .

I really hope they go back to the "save the POI of the week" format. I honestly didn't care for it turning into all these factions fighting for the machines.

I know some of you love Amy Acker, but I could do without Root or those government goons or that British guy that looks like John Hurt.

Yep .. that's what I'm hoping too .. each episode somewhat self contained ..

I totally disagree ,
if they just do a save the P O I each week & have no plot arcs the show is really gonna get boring for me very quickly, as then it will just a be a modern version of Matlock or Columbo with planned plot formulas & then a standard sequence of events each week with just different characters filling into the set-up cookie cutter plot line .
the strengths of P O I is that mix of short plot acrs , long recurring roles , the mysterious back story of Finch & then Reese , now with Sara Shahi & Amy Acker those threads all weave into a very interesting mix .

I like the mix of helping somebody and the story arcs involving the machine and the feds. It's not the same thing each week.

I also like the mix, a single contained story each week is just the same old procedural formula that CBS has done for years and it is beyond boring.

I'm waiting on how many times Ken Chung (Leon Tau) makes an appearance. tongue.gif

I think good shows are able to mix short arcs with longer arcs. I'm sure part of the drama will be dealing with conflicts and priorities while trying to save a POI while dealing with the long arcs.

Yes they did, it was caused by an explosion during a terrorist attack near the Liberty Island ferry terminal, it killed his business partner and injured him. He left the emergency area in a hurry so his wife would not find him, putting her in jeopardy.

No spoilers, episode has already aired.

That's right I didn't remember that correctly till you pointed that out , I now remember that , the bus thing was a near accident & Finch regrets that he told the machine to quit protecting him after the near accident , that at the time of the near accident he wanted the machine to protect the innocents & he didn't check the SSN # that day in time to stop the explosion .
that SSN# said his partner was in danger , the 1st P O I

He was really heartsick when the machine told him that his friend was not relevant for its mission. This is when he started to care about the irrelevant list, rather then just letting the machine delete it at midnight every day.

For the record, I wasn't implying that I want the show to be 100% "POI of the week", but to me that aspect is what made the show such a hit and it felt like the end of last season was nothing more than Root, Kara Stanton, the government goons and the John Hurt-lookalike fighting for control of the machine.

Yes, it's been announced for a few months that both Shaw and Root will be regular characters this season joining the boys.

Sounds like a winning cast!

I certainly hope there is no truth to any of this talk about a SciFi element coming into the show. The show is about a super computer that senses danger, people trying to help them, government conspiracies and coverups, good cops and bad cops, and people dealing with their ghosts/pasts. Adding a SciFi element would be just plain stupid (and I like SciFi).

A machine THAT omniscient, able to predict murders before they happen IS Sci-Fi, NSA snoops withstanding. Current events have given this excellent show an even sharper edge.

Yeah that's been how I felt from the start of the show myself . rolleyes.gif

Did everyone forget the show has moved to Tuesdays? I was expecting a comment or two already.

I liked how they didn't waste time mentioning the current spying situation when the doctor asked Root if she feels like she's being watch. Also, going to be an interesting arc to see Carter go after HR.

I didn't forget... DVR'd it and haven't watched (not "watch") yet. Too much TV, too little time.

It was a good start to the season. Did they mention how they were getting their numbers from the mechine since was moved? I like that spin with Carter going after HR!

Wasn't there a scene with a phone ringing near them on the street? Same as ever.
It was obvious how the interaction between Root and the shrink would play out but I enjoyed the development nonetheless. She's a murdering witch, but I like her. Just needs a bullet now and then to calm her down.

Hmm. 'Force 3' versus the Russian mob? A quick 'net search didn't clarify what 'Force 3' is.--unless it's purely fictional.

You are most likey right on the phone ringing. I have to stop surfing the internet when watching! LOL. Root is going to be trouble for the crew I'm sure.
But I think Root has her own agenda, not against the team but maybe she'll listed to the Machine and maybe even get some of the numbers, how's the Machine passing that info to her?
Well I didn't watch the repeat of the last episode of last season and I was sitting there scratching my head about where it picked up. Can anyone with a better memory give me a quick recap? Last I recall they busted into a warehouse thinking the machine was there but it was empty, and Root got a call from the machine while in the institution. There was a race to get to the phone the machine was going to call to retain control of it. But I do not recall Carter getting busted down to patrol, or the mob boss getting out of prison. Selective memory I guess.

I haven't watched the Season Premiere yet... but Carter was busted because she shot and killed someone (an armed bad guy), but the bad cops took the guy's gun and made it appear that he was unarmed. I don't recall the specifics or names. Not sure about Elias getting out of prison.
In the last episode of the season, Elias was being moved when Carter realized it was a hit by HR. She saved Elias and killed the HR goons.
