More mid-bass punch is always a plus in my book, as long as dialouge isnt effected.

M&K.

Do you work for M&K. Or did you used too? I used to buy off of them. Still have their stuff. Just wondering.I remember my first sub I bought off of them. I had it for 20 years or so and the amp card went bad. I picked up the phone, called them just to see if they were still in business, and I ended up sending my card to California and they fixed it for NOTHING..AND they paid the shipping back. What a company, That kind of service just does not happen anymore.....

I never worked for M&K but I was a big fan and owned most of their speakers upgrading.

BTW, I can run my subs 6 dBs hit with a low shelf added and my vocals are crystal clear.

A while ago I had bought upgraded eD cinema speakers with the kappalite 3012HO and the midbass was better than my DR-200's at the time. Actually they had the best midbass of all speakers except the JBL's(dual 15's) and the Titan 39's. So my question would be would a Titan 39 have more midbass than a DR-280? I crossover at 80hz so extension is out of the equation. Will the DR-280 have as much midbass punch from 80-200hz as a Titan 39? Both are utilizing a 12 inch driver(assume they are the same, deltalite 12). I know my T-39 has more than my dual stacked DR-250's.

MK- I am just curious as to how you are doing the crossovers on your DR speakers as well as the mid-bass cabs that you run from time to time? Are you crossing over actively, and if so, what equipment are you using for this?

Off topic, but....I completely agree with the comment on not finding customer service anymore. However, I recently had a similar experience with Weber and my 13 year old, out of warranty, gas grill. I can not recommend buying Weber enough.

I don't have Titans for the front stage yet. When I do I wire them as one speaker running off of one amp channel and use the DCX for crossovers, filters, and EQ. Usually it comes down to EQ because they naturally drop off where I need them to and I use so little power that I don't run into troubles. I thought maybe the crossover region would be suspect because my drivers are high excursion with no help for inductance so they drop off up high. The DR's drop off at 120hz or so as this left me a whole from 80-120hz or a dip in the response. I messed with my delay on my subs and I made them flat at the XO region but I still thought that I needed some help when at reference in this area(Titan 48 would destroy this area) but after measuring THD I am under 1% THD at 80hz, 100hz, and 200hz at reference with sine waves so there is no need for any change.

Im gunna say that if your T-39 has more midbass than the dualstacked 250s I would assume they would have more than a single 280. Maybe Bill will chime in.

If you look at their sensitivity within this range at 80hz the DR-250 is at 100 dBs, the DR-280 is at 102 dBs and the T-48 is at 107+ dBs so I would expect more from the T-48. However if I raise my crossover on subs to 150hz then I can achieve the same thing which I will do.

MK I think you mentioned that Audyssey Multi EQ can tame a dual stack DR200? Do you think the Multi EQ is comparable to the EQ you do?

Thanks!

I don't have enough experience with Audyssey to be honest. I know using my own manual EQ with my DCX sounds much better than using the MCACC from the elite AVR I had. Maybe it was the amps? Anyways, MCACC was not even close to being flat at the seats and when I do it I have a nice house curve. I would get any auto EQ you can tweak afterwards. Maening once you run the auto EQ maybe you can mess around with some filters to get better if needed.

Did you ever try a ribbon tweeter in the DR's yet?

I will be building my DR's in the next month or so but I will really miss my TPL's. I have not heard the Piezo's yet but these TPL's are awesome.

No I have not. I like them the way they are and if I hear something better then rather than switching to that speaker I would try the ribbons. I mean I like these better than my speakers that are loved on here and my old favorites so to me they are at the top already.

Nice I'm trying to decide which 18 to do a DIY build with in a few months than be able to do mutiples after. I'm either gunna go with 4 Dayton 18 HO's and a couple Dayton SA1000s or go lazy way and just save and get a JTR OS LFU. Can't decide but my mind changes constantly
post #1129 of 1141
In reality I want mutiples of whatever cause my room requires it to have smooth response and non-directional bass at multiple seats

BTW, after owning the DR-250s for a while I have discovered their midbass and jumped up quite a bit since my initial review. I would say their midbass is on par with the T-39s from 80-200hz so second best and right behind the JBL dual 15s.

I'd be interested in seeing the price of each in comparison to its results or your impression.

New or used, my favorites are DIY but you can buy them retail too. This is very easy to do but I got some smoking deals on some of them. I will just list retail of each including DIY.

I am interested in hearing your personal opinion and impression relative to sound quality and value.

Well, my first post was updated a while ago with a rating system I did. I have not listed prices but I will now.
