Or just buy a pair of used la scalas. I've seen them on craigslist as low as $250 each. If you're really wanting to build some just take the drivers from it and build an enclosure and crossover.

Yes I did, the T-39 30 inch are massive!! My plan is to run my Left and right mains with a DR-200 top and a T-39 20 inch bottom. The center is going to be dual DR-200's stacked with a T-39 30 inch bottom. I need to convert my binding posts to speakons and rearrange everything to fit and look cool!!! I will get some pics up ASAP!

I am now looking for new surrounds. Besides the jbl cinemas any ideas? I want to avoid the x- curve in cinema speakers.

How much depth do you have to work with for the surrounds? I seem to recall that you had considered the SHOs for surrounds at one point?

I have the PRO-10s for surrounds and am very happy with them - but I built my column depth deep enough to bury them in there.

Cant wait to hear what you think about the DR/T39 combo vs your old JBL setup.

I cant decide on what design I want to build but hearing your opinion will help.

Stuck between a JBL style pro cinema speaker or something like this or E wave.

My DRS are sealed and the new ones are ported so they will extend deeper alone. They won't need the bottoms but I just want crazy again.

How much extension does the port allow the speaker to play down to? 60...50hz?

I would say it allows it to crossover at 80 with lots of output. The subs provide output at 80 as well and why I did not have a drop off with them on. The sealed DRS dropped off at 100.

That is one of the reasons that I like the older 8340's. They have a switch for selecting the X-curve. I do not use the X-curve.

MK,

Based on all your previous experiences and info you've read here on AVS and online, do you have any personal expectations on which will eventually win?

I'm just curious and think it might be interesting to see what your current expectations are vs how things play out after the measurements/tests/listening sessions.

I believe the DRS will win. Why? Very high sensitivity and big sounding speakers. They can be made with ribbons if you want. They are cheap and big enough for proper placement. Like the DTS-10's they need lots of tweaking. I still have JTRs coming. I played the DRS with no center and they were very clear even with compression. We will see. I have high hopes for them.

I wish you still had your Maggies to compare with the rest. However like you've said before they just can't keep up output wise so it wouldn't be a fair fight for the MMG's. It would be interesting to hear your impressions of how they compare at lower spl levels though especially for music.

I wonder if the larger Maggies can go louder before sounding stressed, if I remember right they have the same if not lower sensitivity so I'm guessing not?

Great thread MK, glad I checked the speaker section since I rarely do. I'm looking forward to reading how the JTR speakers do.

I don't have any yet. Waiting for the new designed stuff. I am selling Triads in room LCR golds, M&K s-90's and SS-500's. The shootout has become DR-200 vs M&K s-5000's. Waiting for eD e12's and triple 8's sealed. Sho-10's will be last to come.

Cant believe your getting rid of the F-20's.........but coming from the past I can believe it.

Will the T39's be coming later or are they already there? I am getting confused.

Still wondering about a DR200 and T18 combo or maybe just a DR250 alone. Could then use the DR250 for bass guitar playing also all in one cab. DR200/T39 would be awesome but then budget comes into play and not sure how I could afford that option.

Either way great thread!!!!!
