@dpeagle: I'm not going to get into a trolling/flaming war with you. I sat on hold and was passed around to four different reps because I didn't start screaming and demanding things from the level 1 tech I spoke with in the first 5 minutes. I did firmly suggest we move on after 30 minutes. I don't call customer support for many items - I generally try to find a fix myself.
That said, and forgive me if I didn't make it clear in my earlier post, it was my experience with customer support that will end any future relationship with Netgear. But, really, why have we as consumers come to accept shoddy, pre-released, beta quality software/firmware as acceptable? The price of being an early adopter, perhaps?
It takes a lot to get me riled up enough to start posting to these sites. I'm a long time fan of AVS, but don't often have time to post, certainly not on a regular basis.
Still, as a consumer, and a pretty understanding one, I don't feel that we should be treated in a sub-par manner without repercussion to the company. Word of mouth from forums like AVS is a key factor in gauging whether a product is worth spending hard earned money on, especially in a rough economy.
Is it too much to ask that a product should meet the requirements (and, God forbid, excel) at what it claims to?
Although I can't check the forums on a daily basis, I'm more than happy to stand up and by the comments made above. Period.
