new to HT, need advice

found this site a while back and the reviews and advice has really helped. I'm new to home theater so i need some advice picking a 5.1 system. I figure to get a decent system I would need to spend 1k or so. I will need a receiver also

budget: $1000-$1500

size req/limits: none

room dimensions: 16x17x8 but kitchen/hall will affect space. look at attachment for details.

primary use: 50% HT/tv, 45% gaming (ex. BFBC2), 5% music.

listening habits: sporting events ( football/soccer mostly), video games( ex. BFBC2, NCAA football, Forza), I watch a lot of movies too ( all types), good bass is a must. I may begin to listen to more music if sub produces good sound.

appearance req: none

time frame: sept 2 would be great but NOT a must. having friends over on the 3rd to watch a football game would be cool if it was set up.

your listening space isn't large but the open space will suck up the bass output, but you may still have lots of room gain which will reinforce the low end. Since you don't have a lot of space to put the sub, I'd go for a single ported sub like the Rythmik FV15 or FV15HP, or SVS PB12-Plus which both should be readily in stock

OP has a $1k to 1.5K budget and you suggest $1000 and up subs

Anyway this system would rock but it might put you over budget with a good AVR

You could use the front 3 speakers and less expensive surrounds or skip the surrounds for now and go 3.1 and get the next up HSU sub or the Rythmik FV12.

ah, I miss the first part and thought the budget was $1k for a sub since this is a sub only forum.

$1k+ for a whole system is a different ballgame. I would spend $400 on a receiver and the rest on speakers.

You would be well served by the Hsu system (maybe drop down to the Enthusiast 1) plus a budget receiver like a Denon AVR-1712

i could move the system to a sealed room that measures 1070ft^3 if it would sound better and the sub would sit to the left or right of the tv in that room
