Bedroom TV. Compare black level, pic quality etc. 40" to 46" plasma or lcd. - Page 2

Well, I went the cheaper route. I noticed the 40" Toshiba's in store had un-even lighting in the corners. It wasn't horrible, but it was noticeable. Then I noticed the 46G310U's on sale yesterday and watched a good deal of material on them in the store and they didn't seem to have the same un-even lighting in the corners. So today I picked one up. I figure for a 46" for the bedroom it will be good enough and save me $600 to go towards the 60ST30 I plan to get for the living room. Sure enough, I set it up and it has flash-lighting or un-even lighting in the upper left corner. Everything else is ok for what the set costs. Black level is not too bad, along with shadow detail and colour. Colour uniformity and banding are minimal.

If it wasn't for the upper left corner, I'd keep this set. So now I'm debating returning it to try another, or scraping the idea of an LCD for the bedroom. I've asked the LCD crowd if it's somewhat common and whether I may find another unit that is free of this issue.

Going to either exchange it, or downgrade to a Toshiba 40" or instead, upgrade to the 42 or 46ST30....or, do without a bedroom TV. I am going to try the 46" in my bedroom to check the size vs distance as I was using it in my living room so far at a greater distance. Either way the unit I have has to be returned.
