I believe Auto 2 is just a smaller range within the Auto 1 subset, so it doesn't close as far. In fact I only used Auto 2 for some brief viewing, as I liked what Auto 1 was doing. Well, most of the time...
Someone could probably perform a quick measure though - measure say a 10% window and a 100% window in Auto 1 and Auto 2. That would probably give you a good idea of what it's doing.
Cool, thanks! Your right, sorry, that is what I meant
So theoretically speaking, if iris open and close were set to the same value, the auto iris would be "stuck" in a static location (similar to just using the manual iris)? I know this is not useful or practical, just trying to wrap my head around what the numbers are actually doing.
I have read you're extensive testing/numbers. Thanks for getting so detailed with everything!
Also, have you had any luck locating image director 3? I can't for the life of me find it on the web. I did however find version 2.1, but I haven't tried it, nor have any idea what to do with it. Heck, I haven't even officially measured my gamma yet (I have it set to off, with open/close iris at 560/270). The reason I ask about the iris not moving if they are set to the same number is this...ANY number on close iris that is lower than the open iris (even a delta of just 10 or something) should yield better black level than using manual iris.
That way, you know for sure your getting a better black level no matter what, and the number can be very small with imperceptible iris pumping. Of course the lower you can get without noticing the iris the better, but it's nice to know you could go with a delta of 100 and still be getting better black levels with an extremely unlikely chance of ever seeing the iris move.
I still see it in action here and there with my current delta of 290, so I'm gonna "close the gap" a little later tonight. I can 'almost' live with the native blacks, but I'm glad I can bump them down just a hair without going crazy on the iris settings. Oh, and headroom!!!!!! As the lamp dims, I'll just readjust things! I'm still on low lamp anyways
