I really have no interest in running the fan on high full time - way too loud.
Pretty scary that just a couple weeks before I had a bunch of people over watching the Super Bowl. Can't imagine if this happened in the middle of that. Even if I had a spare bulb ready I'd still have to take the projector down from the ceiling, put the bulb in and put it back up.
I guess I only have myself to blame. I ended a 10+ year Sony boycott buying this projector due to quality issues I've had in the past with Sony products.
BigCoolJesus, wasn't aware of SonyListens, but I will certainly be contacting them. How does one contact them?
As zombie just said, the email address is
sonylistens@am.sony.com
Long story short is that I expressed my disappointment in not being able to trust the lamps anymore and that if one failed so easily at 700 hours whose to say the next lamp will make it past 1000 or 1500 hours or the lamp after that, etc and maybe I should be looking at other brands if that is the case before I waste 1k on new lamps over a short period of time. Just the usual concerned customer type of mentality when your product exhibits a problem that others don't have.
I got a reply back within two hours from a Sarah Kepler who set up an Event ID # and gave me a direct number to call to discuss the issue. Just got off the phone with the gentleman on the other line and, after a few minutes of holding while he talked with a real supervisor, he said that I should go ahead and purchase a new lamp.....but should the new lamp fail prematurely (sub 1500-2000 hours normal usage) that I can call back and get a full refund. He said my information is saved in their computers so even if it's a year from now that I need to call back due to another failure it would all be taken care of.
Am I mad that I had to buy a new bulb so soon? Dang right. But I definitely feel a lot better knowing that if this happens a second time I'll be taken care of.
