FYI I had someone come by last week to check out my Empire because of this thread...but he's somewhat of a lurker (no posts, but don't get me wrong, he's a nice guy) so you'll just have to wait until he does post as to his experience...

I was really not prepared to demo properly. I thought I could do so on the fly, but there's more to it than I was thinking. Both in materials to demo as well as just general setup/options with my system. Turned out to have another interest in common (mountain biking) so he'll probably get another test session when he wants. Hopefully my journey and opinions and experience were of help to him.

Great glad to hear it....

I can't believe we don't have more people signed up for this thread. As cool as meeting new people that enjoy the hobby is? Why not?!?!

Edit for me Archaea. I got the Empire not the HSU, but I'll still demo it...

I agree. I was concerned when I added my name I'd get tons of demo requests in the summer as an excuse to visit Cape Cod. So far only people I already knew have come by to check them out.

Hey Archaea, why don't you just link this thread in the beginning of your Subwoofer Shootout sticky?

People looking to checkout how subs compare can also get an opportunity to hear the subs they are reading about with the link to this demo thread. Makes sense to me...

I'm going to be in Pennsylvania and Delaware this summer!

Gorilla83 will you be around for me to potentially stop by and visit? Do you still have the CHT subs and the Captivators or did you sell off the CHT? I'd like to hear those subs in direct contest with each other and see if they hold up as well as the CHT enthusiasts say when pushed to higher spls with a capable amp like your crown xls-5000.

My inlaws live in Boyertown, PA, and we are going to the coast in Delaware to stay for a week at a beach house for summer vacation.

Any other subs I can experience on this vacation?

I've heard multiple SVS and already heard dual opposed MFW-15 so that sorta negates the other two volunteers in PA and DE as to my bucketlist.

Hey - just saw this post now. Yes, I will be around. I live about an hour from Boyertown:

http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Boyertown&state=PA

Unfortunately I did sell the CHTs a while back, but I do still have the Caps. For a few months I had been buying/selling different sub setups, but since I've bought the Caps I've stopped looking!

have been experimenting with many different sets of mains including: DefTech BP3000s, DefTech BP30s, DefTechBp2002, Martin Logan reQuests, etc. By the time you get here I'm likely to pick something else up. smile.gif

As a side note, I still have my MiniDSP which I still have YET to set up! Perhaps we could play with that as well.

Also - Remove DT Trinity and CHT subs from my list.

I will be out in California for work the week of June 25-29 and would like to check out your system edoggrc51. I am considering a custom LMS build with a clone amp. Let me know if this would be possible. Shoot me a PM if you want.

Sure thing. Let me know what day works best for you and we'll go from there. smile.gif

Updated for MKTheater.

Guys I got to meet Gorilla83. He's a very cool guy! I listened to his favored Definitive Tech setup, and a really sweet Martin Logan electrostatic setup. I got to hear his Captivators - which many of you know are my absolute favorite overall subs I've ever heard (which is why I own a pair. wink.gif ), and a polk 505 sub (which actually surprised me a bit -- it was better than I expected). We talked sports cars, audio, and tech. It was a good time, and I wish we had more time to swap stories. Thanks for hosting me man. Craig John -- I'll try to meet up with you next time I'm in PA and I'm sorry it didn't work out this time. I appreciate you both offering to let me demo your setups! This community rocks!
