i just cant see myself jumping into a kuro even if the tv is slightly better. They are pretty much obsolete now . Panel is too thick and power hungry for a 50",also i am sure the hardware due to its age will be going bad.. Does the kuro have internet connectivity? I guess if i was a pro calibrator i would have them also. I almost had the chance to buy one brand new kuro FD101 FD for 1100.00 back in october 2011. Some reason the military Exchange was selling them which i thought they were completely sold out off the shelf back in 2010. Well sitting next to it was a Panasonic GT25 for 999.00 no tax. I snatched it up due to the fact it was a smaller panel and easier to move around. The Kuro reminded me of my 42px60u back in 2008. Just looked thick. Well tomorrow a buyer is coming over to pickup my mint 50GT 25 for 600.00 . In my living room is a 60ST30 burning in with the slides and going to use Dnice settings btw which was bought for 1149.00 shipped. I plan on selling it in 6-7 months now and picking up a VT50. I couldnt wait i needed something bigger , 50" was just too small after owning a V10 58" ex took it. I do miss 72hz and will definitly welcome a nice skinny panel if i get a VT50. Something like that though deserves to be mounted on a wall. My setup is alittle different , i just like the stand and a big entertainment center.
I will shoot some pictures to you all once i plug in the settings on tuesday night.

What'll be interesting is in a few years when there are OLEDs and plasmas going for around the same price- how little of a difference will there be in picture quality.

I am looking forward too it. It will be the true CRT replacement back when sony had trinitron . This will be better. I have a NEC 2690wuxi calibrated with the eye 1 . OLED will be welcomed for computer monitor as there isnt really anything out that compares. I still think we are at least 3 years away before we see affordable 50"-60" OLEDs. How long would it take for panasonic to convert their plants to make these tvs? Sony is already there from what i know. I am sure the black levels and refresh rates will be unbelievable.

Quote from the blog 'Even though a lot of Smart TVs are sold in the U.S. many are never connected to the Internet and less are actually used for streaming. Some of this is probably just lack of awareness (I’m sure lots of people just buy a TV and don’t even realize it’s “Smart”). Yet another reason is the quality of the streaming experience can be poor. We’ve found that it just takes a lot of work to keep the experience current and performing at its best. We issue software updates almost every month, and add about one new channel per day.'

ROKU (or equivalent) are focused on making streaming work well for the consumer and will keep their content and user interfaces up to date. Software updates frequently - or if you need new hardware a $50 stick not a toally new TV....

(that said they are exaggerating when they say they issue software updates every month - but you get the point)

I guess there are others joining the streaming party. Unlike the Roku, this one will work with most existing HD TV's:

I think Sony just dropped out of the consumer OLED market for TVs.

Too thick? The Pioneer 101FD and 141FD are 2.5" thick. The 60ST you have is 2.2" thick (the speaker is 2.8" thick though). So an extra 0.3" depth is "thick?" I think you were looking at a 111FD or maybe a 110FD, not a 101FD. Pioneer Elite Signature panels (141FD & 101FD) are pretty dang thin with the panel depth measuring in at 2.5". And they were released in 2008. Well, the 141FD was released in 2008.

If 2012 sets are anything like 2011, the larger sizes will have deeper blacks. If there is a set- maybe the 60ST50 or 60UT50- with an mll of .002 ft/L or under, with a price of around $1500 or less, it'll be hard to see why we should pony up for an $8k OLED or even a $4k OLED, but infinite ANSI contrast would be very interesting to see.

I am aware that we live in a disposable world but no display should last only 2-3 years.

Why do I need it? I have DirectTV, an Oppo BDP-93, a few laptops and multiple cellphones. I'm covered whenever I want to get on the net... from where ever.

Panasonic is already building an 8.5 gen OLED plant for R&D purposes in Himeji Japan

You gave up a chance to buy a 101 for $1100 brand new?

Is it still available? Please let me know.

Do you see the remote next to the display or do you see a display running a looped Power Point presentation? There is a difference.

Yeah, if it was a 101FD, that was a REALLY bad move. I think it was a 110FD though.

I see both. It's a paradox machine! Help me! YAYX!

Or I just need to take a look at that picture with something else than Opera Mobile with the Turbo mode (lossy image compression) on?

That was back oct 2010 the kuro was new 1100 at the military exchange. I went with 2010 model panasonic GT25 for 999.99 i couldnt believe it was that low. Wasnt the kuro a 2009? I am selling my tv tomorrow and have a 60ST30. 50" is too small

Somewhat unrelated...but did anyone just see the plasma that LG rolled out at CES? Looks intriguing, though we've said that about LG plasmas before.

Apparently it will have some sort of matte AR filter? Didn't Panasonic try this in the past? Anyone here own a PX77 Panny?

Yup, I've had a 50PX77U for 4 years. I really like it. I have windows directly behind the seating positions and it blurs out the reflections so you can't make anything out. You definitely get a contrast reducing overall screen washout when the lights are on but it's not terrible. In the dark it's fine.

I don't understand why the Plasma has to have that atrocious claw-foot when the LED/LCDs have this gorgeous stand:

I just want a traditional, square stand. Is that too much to ask for?

My experience is the same with my 50px77u
