When do the 2012 Panasonic VT series come out? - Page 3

The new sets can't come out soon enough for me I wasn't that impressed with the VT30's as they weren't much of an improvement over the VT25 IMHO. I'm hoping the VT50's coming out this year finally make me say I'd much rather have it over a KURO in every respect not just one feature of the set.

I wish you luck with your wish list

Thanks. I have high hopes this time around. It may not come true but how long can we keep saying "not as good as a Kuro". I work in computers and have a hard time thinking of too many parts where I say - I wish this processor (for example) was as good as the ones they made 4 or 5 years ago.

D-Nice,

Any guesses at this point in regards to the VT50? Are you expecting a nice upgrade from the VT30, or something more incremental like the last few years?

I have zero interest in the VT50.

Would that be because -

A) you've given up on Panasonic getting their plasma act together?

B) you've decided Samsung just has better plasmas?

C) you've decided you'll hang on to your Kuro till they pry it off your cold, dead wall?

D) you've decided to join the LED/LCD crowd?

E) A combination of some or all of the above?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say he knows enough about the VT50 already and knows it's going to be overhyped junk.

^I can buy that. Utterly shameful that Panasonic can't match the PQ of their competitor from 4 years ago (yes, I'm making a forecast/prediction based on our calibrator guru's lack of anticipation/excitation ).

Seems like someone has upset you at Panasonic Dwain.

Perhaps, but I'd still like to know the reason as I really need to fix or replace the old TV in my bedroom.

D-Nice might be more interested in that LG OLED on the horizon.

It would be nice if the VT50 has less problems and better performance than the VT30 and costs less- that's about the most you can hope for.

+1, sadly.

I don't think Panasonic really cares about making huge advancements in PQ on an annual basis.

I hope the LG OLED set lives up to the hype; they really whiffed pretty bad on their LED sets this year. Maybe they can bounce back.

The biggest OLED from LG is still too small as far as I know and not a production TV. While I'd certainly like a quality OLED TV I think it is at least 5 years away based on the economy.

why is that the VT40 became VT50 ?

The number 4 is considered bad luck in Japan.

From what I've read the LG and maybe samsung may come out with a 55" OLED in the summer and panasonic is working on it, but I call these...rumors.
Maybe this will be a reason not to dump a ton of money in current display tech, just bells and whistles.

What is shameful is that they could match the PQ of the KURO but choose not to. Panasonic's business plan seems to be to produce panels that are only good enough to just slightly best the competition.

The sad thing is that at this point I would be happy with less problems. Better performance would be an unexpected bonus at this point.

How about none of the above?

On a serious note, I'm really not interested. I know what I need to know about them and I will see them when I see them in the field. Nothing about them makes me say "Holy shhhhh!!! This is something new and I gotta have it!"

Panasonic will no longer be put above the rest, nor get "special treatment", when it comes to me. There are other manufacturers out there that have equal or better products and it is time for me to truly eliminate the partial bias I've had toward Panasonic (it's the primary reason why I've been very critical of their product).

It should be interesting if Samsung will be making any notable improvements to their plasmas in 2012.

As a result, would you deter anyone from buying a 2011 Panasonic at a great price?

They will do what they need to do to be competative in the game. Nothing more.
This will be something you will have to decide on your own. Use your own judgement and don't let others dupe you. I'll leave it at that......

Shameful?

They make business decisions. We've already seen what happened to Pioneer. At least Panasonic is still in the game.

What is the point of being in the game if you really aren't doing anything.

Not doing anything? My definition of "not doing anything" is Pioneer. They are extinct (with respect to TVs). Their chance of introducing a better panel is zero! (FYI- I own a Pio plasma and love it!)

Panasonic is surviving in a tough industry. Not only are they developing new plasma sets, they are growing plasma sales- and taking market share from LCD. An accomplishment considering many (perhaps most) said plasma would die at the hands of LCD. I expect Panny's 2012 plasmas to be better (and bigger) than last years.

Has Panny produced a panel that can top the Kuro? Maybe not- but they have a chance to do so someday, which is a LOT more than Pioneer can say!
