I know you are very familiar with the Optoma HD65 puchased one because of your review now just purchased the HD3300 =)

I have a mounting bracket for the HD65. Are the dimension of the holes from each other the same as the HD3300?

Hi. I've been lurking around this thread for a while now. Based on what i read so far, I am pretty sure I will pull the trigger on a HD33 when it comes around to this part of the world (I'm from Malaysia, u see).

Just a question that I have not seen addressed anywhere (or i may have just missed it). I plan to connect this pj to my PC. Does anyone know if any 3D drivers like nvidia 3dtvplay or tridef or iz3d works on this pj?

All those drivers should work with any HDMI 1.4 capable PJ.

I would think so but nvidia does not list (yet) the optoma HD33 as supported projector for nvidia 3dtvplay driver.

I'll let you know next week, once i get my pj.

ps : Is this for games or just playing BD ?

It's a 1920 x 1080 panel, and it's doing sequential 3D, so it should be full 1080p per eye.

We recently purchased the Optoma GT750e and were overcome with the rainbow effect while watching Tron. I had to send it back because my eyes kept trying to lock onto the rainbows. My wife had the same issue.

We are thinking about stepping up to the HD3300 from AVScience, but I am now concerned that rainbows my be present there as well. I'd like to try to avoid another return scenario if I can. Can anyone who is rainbow sensitive confirm that the HD33 almost eliminates them?

What speed color wheel do the GT750e and the HD33 use?

Mine looks to be here Monday. Review to follow. I'm most curious as to 3D brightness on 1.0 gain screen.

So here we apparently have a rare, true advance in DLP projection technology which needs to be highlighted.
It didn't occur because the management at Texas Instruments planned the improvement, but only because the high 3D frame rates processing required it.
I'm not complaining, but it just shows how ignorant we humans are, as most discoveries are stumbled upon.

So here we have a $1500 projector with colors that pop with less noise than previous DLP designs.

Home Theater Magazine finally published their review of the 3D Sharp 17000 DLP and its contrast measured a mediocre 1461:1. It MSRP is a greedy $5500!

Krane measure low light Optoma 33 contrast at 2500:1. MSRP is $1500.

So someone who spent $10K on a DLP projector (to buy the best) has almost totally lost their investment. The rule is don't overspend on technology before its time.

Note: the LCoS 3D projectors have also sacrificed contrast by making the panels thinner (faster switching) for 3D.

Bucking this trend, the latest 240Hz Sharp 70" LCD flat panels (735 and Elite) use a powerful combination of technologies resulting color that also pop, higher contrast with greater reduced levels of motion noise. The yellow pixel brightens the display to allow quality 3D daytime viewing.

Congratulations guitarman, as you are the only other member to explain the major reason why everyone likes their new less expensive display: the reduction or absence of noise in the image.

It may be subtle, but Guitarman has the HD3300, so his reactions and review might be different if he had the HD33 to view side-by-side. From what has been stated so far, there are slight differences between the two--mostly tweaking--better contrast and noise reduction--better components used in the HD3300.

Would be nice to see a review head to head HD33 vs. HD3300 in exact same environment with same content.

Well I finally got to watch a live action 2D movie (Aliens in the Attic) yesterday. This one has a lot of high contrast scenes and HD33 blew me away once more. I finally understood what guitarman would have felt when he took the Back to The Future photo showing superb ANSI contrast.

The blacks looked very good without losing detail while providing excellent contrast to the brighter objects.

On another note, for a change I switched to "Reference" setting and reduced the brightness to 0 and somehow this movie looked better in terms of color pop.

At the end of the article--4K 2D is coming and 3D won't be far behind--my guess 2 years for affordable 2D 4k and another 5 years for 3D of course. And then we'll all wait as cable and satellite upgrade to 4K and...well I'm saving my pennies in a jar for it. Now let's get back to the past...

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for using the Harmony remotes with these units....Until Logitech gets them into their data base?

As a follow-up to my previous post, decided the HD33 is a keeper and good enough with 2D (already know 3D is very good) that I've decided to eBay off my Panny AE4000U. May end up even, not bad at all.

I never expected to be able to use a PJ without lens shift, so I almost overlooked this one. However, I did some measurements and it appears this one is perfect for my setup. I will only need to lower the screen about 3 inches to avoid keystone adjustment! (Projector is mounted on an 8' high soffit, screen is currently 4" lower than that on a 9.5' wall, so I can move the screen down but can't raise the PJ).

For now I am going to mount the 3300 where needed and move my Mits HC6800 to the side of it and keep both. The Mits has excellent 2D quality (and motorized lens shift), so I will be able to compare both and report back. If 2D pic quality is close enough, I'll put the Mits up for sale.

Man, I am glad I didn't look past this PJ and THANKS to Optoma for the "perfect" offset for me!

Been looking at this projector for awhile now and reading all the posts. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread. I am ready for an upgrade and this projector might be it. I am currently using a Panasonic AX100 (720p, LCD). My current throw is 14' with a 107" 1.0 screen. The screen is about 17.5" from the ceiling and 21.5" from the ground. I am been messing with the Optima calculator but not sure if this pj will work for me. One note is that the minimum I can throw this pj at is 14' (there is a sofit that drops from the ceiling about 12" preventing me from mounting the pj any closer.) With this numbers, can this pj work in my current setup? Thanks.

guitarman, I noticed that 14' is right at the Zoom 1.0 mark on the distance calculator. Is that gonna be a problem? I ask because I am using a 1.0 gain screen (a DIY Designer White Wilsonart screen I built.)

EDIT: I also forgot to mention that my current pj is dropped from the ceiling about 14" (in order to throw the image under the sofit.) I am assuming I will have to do the same with the HD33/HD3300. Is this gonna cause a problem?
