Sort of, but depends on many factors and most people can watch 3D dimmer than 2D (also most 3D movies are bright, not all though). You could probably do 3D in low lamp mode in the beginning, then when your lamp gets older set it into torch mode(if Optoma hd33 allows torch mode for 3D). None of us can really control 3D brightness over lamp dimming 100%, we all have to just take what it gives us over time.
hd33 with 1.3 gain and 100 inches is going to be pretty bright, you'll probably need an ND filter at first if you are in a near-bat cave.
