MLB Extra innings is around $200 I think with games every night for 6 months.

NHL Center Ice is around $170 with games every night for 6 months.

NFL Sunday Ticket is $349 for 17 days a year.

That is a ridiculous rip-off.

I think you're overlooking something obvious. You are comparing NFL Football with Basketball, Baseball and Hockey. There's no comparison.

On the planet where they offer packages to 1000x more customers via the internet and make far more money than raping a handful captive D* subs. The NFL should wise up.

Not sure they make money off of ST. They make new subs using it as bait. I think bringing in subs has been the reason for it for a long time.

And how does that explain commercial ST (bars and casinos)? DirecTV literally prints money from that side of the NFLST business.

DirecTV makes money off of bars, restaurants, casinos etc having Sunday ticket. It costs thousands and thousands of dollars for those places to have it and they are charged according to their official capacity. So if their capacity is 250 people they have to pay the price DirecTV charges for 200-299 people, etc.

DirecTV does not make much money off of the home customers getting Sunday Ticket. That is why they are so willing to offer it for free to get new customers, and give out big discounts to good customers that call in and ask for them.

As far as the decisions to offer team specific packages, offer it online to non-subscribers, etc. I think most of those decisions are up to the NFL themselves, not DirecTV. If the NFL decides to allow DirecTV to offer it they will, if not then they can't. I don't ever see the NFL allowing it though, because it will just drive a bigger divide between the owners/teams etc. over stuff like why don't the Cowboys get more money from the league cause more people subscibe to their team feed on DirecTV, etc.

Well said, and you are probably right that the NFL doesn't even allow a team specific package. Wouldn't surprise me that other owners would hate to see general NFLST revenue lost and replaced by Cowboys and Steelers only revenue, although the NFL could divide up the revenue from single team packages to other teams. If it is the NFL, I suspect they too have done their homework and thought about this and come to the conclusion that it's more profitable for them to not offer a team specific package.

Keep in mind that the NFL is also protecting their network partners. Too many people having NFLST means more people not watching (and thus poorer ratings for) their local affiliate from 1-7pm.

Is this up yet on the PS3 for preseason...I can't find it anywhere...

Sunday Ticket doesn't cover preseason games

That's bull. For example most people in Nashville are in fact watching Titans games. Sunday Ticket won't change that. If the NFL was worried about newtroks the wouldn't be giving 17 of the best games to ESPN for MNF 17 or to Sunday Night football and 8 more to NFL Network. And the NFL is looking to give another 8 games out to someone else. For example 5 of Dallas' 16 games are on MNF, SNF or NFLN. Where is the "concern" about the local Dallas stations? The NFL cares about MONEY and if Sunday Ticket is where the money is that's where the NFL is going to be.

^^^
Well SNF might get the "best games" but MNF and NFL Net do not.

They get the "supposed" best games. And I think you could have figured out what I meant without me having to explain it. For example week 16 MNF is ATL@NO. Now that may end uup being a game between team teams with losing records but as of now that's a prime match-up. Now you don't think FOX affiliates in AFC markets wouldn't have loved to have an opportunity to show that game?

You may be right. Do you have the numbers? And the amount they paid the NFL?

You do know that NFL Games on ESPN & NFL must be made available on an OTA station in each team's primary media market. So the local Dallas station(s) won't be missing out on not televising the game. I know that the Chargers have 2 games on ESPN, which CBS 8/KFMB will simulcast the ESPN feed & 1 game on NFLN, which Fox 5/69-KSWB will simulcast.

Yes and when the Titans are on MNF or SNF or NFLN guess what, the game is NOT on the local CBS station( WTVF ) as it would be it's on another station( WKRN an ABC affilaite ). So that CBS station is in fact losing out.

DirecTv is paying the NFL $4 billion from 2011-2014 for Sunday Ticket.

You do know that NFL Games are put up for bid by either the NFL or ESPN amongst the local stations in each market to have the simulcast. WTVF had an opportunity to get the game, but WKRN had the highest bid.

...Acutally...I'm watching the Texans game right now through my Sunday Ticket iPad app. For some reason, the website isn't working but the iPad streams all the preseason just fine...

They're not from Sunday Ticket.

Are you sure about this? Everything I have read about this indicates that ANYONE with a PS3 can access this, regardless of whether or not they are able to get Directv. I can't believe they would create a PS3 app for something that they are going to make extremely difficult for anyone to actually buy.

I spoke to a Sony CS rep. yesterday and asked the same question and they assured me that it is universally available to "EVERYONE" with a psn account.

If you got the dough u get the show.Money talks here.

In the article it says:
"At the start of the season, viewers who do not currently have access to DIRECTV...."

Thats for people that are described here:

"It's our attempt to open up the universe a bit to people that can't get DirecTV - students, people who live in big apartment buildings and people who live in New York City - and it's a new revenue stream for us," DirecTV senior director of product management Alex Kaplan told Multichannel News.

If you have access to directv but just choose not to get directv then you dont qualify.
Its only meant for people like those mentioned above that cant get directv even if they wanted too.

Now if they give it to a person anyway thats another story.

That's a bunch of bull. How is that a deal? Not everyone wants DirecTv. Ok I'll say too many tall trees so I cant get a signal. Are they going to send someone out to check? Bad enough DirecTv has monopolized this product for over 15 years and counting. DirecTv has 2 choices A) get SOME money from me by oferring my Sunday Ticket only or B) get NOTHING. Call me silly but something > ZERO. At least last time I checked. Considering DirecTv is paying the NFL $1 BILLION a year, they'd take all the money they can get.

Quit your crying. Before the NFL and DirecTV renewed their contract ST was offered to Dish and other cable providers. DirecTV stepped up and kept it.

It's universally available to everyone with Directv and Sunday Ticket. The ability to simply pay 340 dollars for PS3 Sunday Ticket access (but no Directv service) is NOT universally available to everyone. Reps from Directv have already made that clear.

They have no choice after this year since it will be a requirement to make it available to everyone.

Who made this supposed requirement?

Quick question, if I buy this for my ps3, do I also got the Sunday ticket iPad and a iPhone access?

AFAIK the contract extension the NFL made with Directv has the stipulation that an online version be available by 2012 for non-Directv customers. This is also why the "Red Zone" channel exists on cable providers systems.
