from Umbrella's website.
I have no info on possible region coding or quality, but this label did release the highly praised "Picnic At Hanging Rock" bd in Australia.
it is scheduled for wider release in Australia on 9/6, but apparently the distributor decided to make it available now to get a few early sales I guess.

It now redirects to a "Product Not Found" page. Strange that it's not listed when the other September releases are, along with October and November titles as well. I smell a delay...

well that was quick-- incredibly it's now been pulled.
apparently Lynch and his lawyers issued a cease and desist.
someone else got this email, and it looks like no copies actually shipped, but maybe.
what a friggen' joke, although obviously the Lynch version will be better.
can't imagine what the Umbrella execs could be thinking now.

"Just got this email from Umbrella - Due to reasons beyond our control, the impended release of Eraserhead on Bluray has been delayed. David Lynch is personally putting the final touches on this special high definition title, which is now due to come out in late 2011/early 2012."

Hopefully with Lynch now involved this will actually make way for a US release. Who has the US rights for Eraserhead anyways?

Lynch owns the film himself outright.

I remember first seeing this back in the 80's on an over-the-air scrambled pay movie channel (SelectTV). Wow - this one really messes with your mind! Have only seen it the one time but once seen the experience is never forgotten. Even so I had to go to Wikipedia to read the synopsis to refresh my memory of the plot (if one can call it that). If Citizen Kane was Orson Welle's wunderkind film then Eraserhead was certainly David Lynch's. Love it or hate it - it's a cult classic.

Lynch claims that he's never done drugs, and I have no reason to doubt him. He's actually quite "square" in real life. He uses film as an outlet for his stranger impulses.

His vices are coffee and cigarettes, both of which he consumes in great quantities. Or at least he used to. He's big into transcendental meditation these days. I don't know if that has convinced him to kick either of his habits.

The German BD arrived this morning. I'll watch it later today...
Very good transfer. Gorgeous photography, sharp, superb grayscale.
And the lossless sound design of Alan Splet. Must have for fans of Lynch and
the film.

That is great news! I'm a big David Lynch fan. Eraserhead is one of my favorites (hence my avatar).

I have the japanese edition on pre-order. I also have the german edition on pending order. I can do a comparison in April when the jp version is out. David Lynch owns the rights to this movie himself, so I'm guessing they're all just licensing a copy of his 2005 HD master. still, authoring houses can fudge it up during encoding (adding dnr for example) ...so I'm not taking any chances, I'll probably end up buying all the different editions I can get my hands on
